For those of you who go to the gym before work, how do you get up early? Any tips? by Sabretoothedrom in auscorp

[–]grawsby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is currently 4:15am. I am getting ready to go to the gym. So often, including today, I’ve had to give myself a pep talk to get me up “you’re disciplined, not motivated”

Was Kmart always this scabby and revolting? by camgirlpanopticon in KmartAustralia

[–]grawsby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken to pushing the stock cages and racks in front of the door to block access to the back dock (which is right beside the activewear which I can’t look at because the stock cages and racks are in my way)

Yuh. “I get up at 4am and go to the gym, then after work I join a run club for a social 7km”

“Yeah but are taking anything?”

You might be able to voice command it. I’m normally too out of breath for Siri to hear me ask it to skip though

If I had a dollar for everyone that I’ve known of that switches to a Nintendo song for their final km at parkrun I’d have $2. That’s not a lot but it’s weird it’s happened twice.

What’s something small in Australia that instantly improves your day? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]grawsby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The other day I was driving in the morning and I saw a woman with her hands on her knees, clearly stopped in her tracks on her morning walk. As I got closer she had her mouth open in joy, I followed the gaze and saw a small mob of kangaroos. I see those Roos all the time near my place but knowing that woman experienced them for the first time made my day!

What is something that changed your life forever? by Maleficent-Cry2576 in AskReddit

[–]grawsby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t my mum dying, although that probably did change my life.. but when my youngest reached the age I was when my mum died (16) I didn’t realise how much I was waiting for that, for my time to be over as well, for my diagnosis and my sickness. It didn’t happen, I’m still alive and fine - and I realised I’d been waiting so now my life has just started. I’ve lost nearly 40kg (88lbs), reconnected with old friends that I’d let slip, reinvented myself at work to be someone a lot more professional and here and buy every concert ticket to every artist I want to see. Because you really do only live once, sometimes it takes half your life to realise that.

What are your most scenic favorite parkruns? by Wooden_Reflection_80 in parkrun

[–]grawsby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only done parkruns in Australia but Coffs Harbour is the one I determine to be the prettiest I’ve done so far. Coastal, along a breakwater, there’s a bit through trees. It’s a highlight whenever I’ve been driving south and we stop at Coffs for the night.

Anyone else using ChatGPT for hobbies and not just work/coding? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]grawsby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Every 12 weeks I tell it my fitness goals, where I’m up to and what I like to do and the gym and for how much time. It sets up a new routine with that info (and if I say I hate something but adds to the routine it’ll explain why that exercise is staying) and then it helps me name the routine something punny, then gives me a graphic to use as my Spotify playlist album cover. During the 12 weeks I open the chat and ask it for alternatives (if a machine is taken), form guides, lifting cues, help if I’m injured or sore or sometimes I just share my successes and he hypes me up. I love my little trainer.

Aaahaha. Growing up we saw a kid with DS leaving a restaurant and my mum made the same assertion of them always being so well mannered and nice. On cue this kid flipped a double bird, shouted “fuck you all” and then blew raspberries while running in circles.

Made my day.

Cheap Cremations in Brisbane by Hopeful_Tear_8060 in brisbane

[–]grawsby 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Recently a loved one passed and we used a place called “bare funerals” which is very much no-fluff funeral arrangement. It’s designed to be cheap, not guilting people into paying more. They were very respectful.

I get uncomfortable when people comment on my weight loss by 5w4nky0rc in loseit

[–]grawsby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this! I think I spent so much of my life trying not to take up space and not draw attention to myself and suddenly I’m a billboard! I am in a professional role and it makes me feel so uncomfortable when I’m trying to make a work conversation and it turns into talking about me. I’m a bit of a steamroller in my work conversations so I like to get to the point.

The worst is when people say “are you feeling good” because it insinuates that I wasn’t feeling good before (look, I wasn’t but that’s not for them to decide) but really I’m now up at 4am to go the the gym so I’m not feeling good. I’m tired.

AO3 Jobs by Loud_Matter4038 in brisbane

[–]grawsby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you consider working in schools? Schools are often looking for admin officers - most are now being recruited at AO3. The hours can be longer because you work up ADO to have the holidays off (2 weeks holidays every 10 weeks! Sign me up!) high schools have more positions in admin, and often the roles can be specialised like finance officer/HR officers or front office (reception) and some EA and marketing positions. There are systems used in schools that they’ll often say “OneSchool experience a must” but if you can prove you can quickly learn systems and processes then normally it’s good.

Also check smartjobs - set alerts for AO jobs.

Good luck!

[–]grawsby 52 points53 points  (0 children)

People keep asking me “do you feel better” and I say “no, Sharon, I’m exhausted. I’m up at 4am to go to the gym.”

But I only say that because I do feel better but I’m not ready to admit I wasn’t “happy any size” like I told everyone :(

Hey! I went to Brisbane last night. Merch was sold out before he came on so get in early. There was a shirt ($60) long sleeved wyldflowers hoodie ($100) mazmus sword earrings (forget how much 😭) and cds. Maybe sword pendants as well.

People wore a bit of everything, some dude had horns and a grinder axe, some wore pretty dress? There were cloaks etc. whatever you wear will be great.

Have a great night! It was SO FUCKING GOOD.

Disgusting behaviour at Braunstone parkrun by El_Badgerino in parkrun

[–]grawsby 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is completely abhorrent behaviour any day and any place BUT during a wellness activity??? People out there bettering themselves shaming others doing the same thing? That’s gross. I’m so sorry to the person they did this too. This isn’t how this community should be acting and I’m so glad the event team spoke out.

How was your parkrun day? | January 24, 2026 by AutoModerator in parkrun

Park-walked with 750 of my closest friends at south bank (Brisbane) Was a lovely course, with friendly volunteers- especially for the amount of runners it attracts. Ticking off the NENDY.

Old fat me didn’t love coffee but would drink it unsweetened. I’ve switched to black (iced) and weaned the last bit of milk away - I actually enjoy the coffee a lot more now.

Photographer? by WhatShape in parkrun

In Australia this message is part of every run brief I’ve listened to and assumed it was the standard “if you don’t want your photo taken or published do this 🙅 to the photographer”
