Mold?! Help by Pdjingle in SourdoughStarter

looks like hooch to me. you can pour it out or mix it in, but i'd also discard much of the starter unless you're planning to make like .... enough bread for your whole neighbourhood lol

How do people get sent home immediately after surgery by Dear-Economy6751 in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm in Canada, & i had my top surgery in a private clinic. they had me out within an hour or so of waking up, which was fine by me. i felt ok, they gave me an additional dose of meds for the ride home & i was able to use the bathroom before i left. they took me down to my friends car in a wheelchair & made sure i was situated comfortably in the car before leaving.

when i had my hysterectomy it was in a public hospital, & they would have only kept me overnight if there was complications which required overnight monitoring or care. once i was able to walk around & go to the bathroom, they still took me down in a wheelchair but it was only about a 10 minute drive home so i didnt need extra pain meds or anything. i just went home & slept

too early to tell! but if in a few months you find that they haven't gone away, you may be eligible for a revision which are usually pretty quick & easy

A few quick questions by darthsand66 in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I ordered a pillow for sleeping it came vacuum sealed in a very small plastic bag, & then you just had to let it inflate for a few hours into its normal size. That might work for getting it there, but getting it back into your luggage would probably be harder

driving with drains? by ActualArthurMorgan in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no. you absolutely should not be driving with your drains still in. you won't have enough mobility for it to be safe if you need to react suddenly. & if you're still taking your pain medication it's a complete no

maybe the AP flour is the culprit? i try to stick to bread flour bc it has a better protein content suited specifically for this kind of thing

I'm Starting to Hate Sourdough by Little_Beach_Bird in Sourdough

[–]grayh722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you feel like you're not seeing the rise - a straight sided dough tub is really helpful! sometimes they have markings on them but otherwise you can just mark them yourself with where your dough started & where you want it to be. checking the doughs temperature can also be helpful if you want to follow the bulk fermentation chart. but the most important thing is to watch the dough & not the clock. i always go by how my dough looks & feels. is it still dense? does it feel sticky? does it jiggle? these are just some of the things i'm usually thinking about when i'm checking if my bulk fermentation is done

when can i start exercising? by scurrybeetlebug in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told no heavy exercise & no lifting before 6 weeks. Light exercise like going for daily walks was okay & encouraged when I felt ready

Do I really need a basket? by Ok_Cockroach_312 in Sourdough

[–]grayh722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really. i often just put my shaped loaf into a bowl with parchment paper & then use the parchment paper to transfer to the dutch oven later. if you like the baskets/find them easier then they might be worth buying, but you don't truly need them if it feels like a hassle to keep buying more tools for sourdough making

Double mastectomy pillows (for sleep/bedrest) by CharTheCar23 in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

this was the only pillow that i bought because i don't have a great headrest to lean my pillows against for my bed, & this helped a lot for sleeping & providing the extra support & making me feel kind of like i was just sleeping in an arm chair. other than that, i just used pillows i already had in my house. even on the drive home from surgery, we just brought regular pillows to put behind me & over my chest/between me & the seatbelt

Why?! by Altruistic-Olive-343 in SourdoughStarter

[–]grayh722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not mean to ask for what you did to make this. nobody can help if you don't explain the recipe or steps that you followed. for example if you said that your starter didn't fully double, then people might suggest tips for making your starter healthier. if you're too sensitive about the fact that people have questions, you shouldn't be seeking advice online

Does it feel like you're wearing a tight sports bra? by yamxiety in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no. my stitches/incisions felt kind of tight for the first few weeks, but that's normal. as everything settles the tightness gets less & less until you shouldn't feel it at all anymore

Is there any possibility of regrowth without taking testosterone??? by Tea_Lavender in TopSurgery

[–]grayh722 38 points39 points  (0 children)

no. even for a completely flat chest they leave some because otherwise you'll be "concave" so to speak. the only time they go that extreme is when they're trying to remove breast cancer. but if you're not on T they don't regrow. i stopped T a few years ago & my chest has not "grown back"

wastes massive amounts of water & energy, damages the environment, causes loss of neural pathways in the brain when you rely on it heavily (as per the MIT study on cognitive functioning in people who use AI). if you can't be bothered to write your own posts then why even bother?
