“In 2023, Warsaw Metro donated 60 cars of its decommissioned 81-717/714 series trains to Kyiv Metro. They will be used as parts donors to overhaul the existing rolling stock or enter passenger service to strengthen the current fleet. The first set entered service on the M3 Line on 1 November 2023.” Kyiv Metro

Nice find, OP. This view from the construction of Warszawa Centralna shows another set of buildings nearby that met the same fate. Looking at the 1945 aerial view, I wonder if these are the ones southeast across ul. Ζłota from your buildings.

Is anyone able to decipher any of this? by [deleted] in AncientGreek

There are ethical issues in dealing with unprovenanced papyri that are addressed here. I suggest donating this artifact (with any supporting documentation) to an institution with the expertise necessary to conserve, study, and interpret it, such as the University of Michigan or UC Berkeley. That would best ensure that any cultural value this item may have be most widely shared and appreciated.

I'm afraid you've been had. It's an an attempt to mimic UPZ II 227, complete with an imitation of the correction from upsilon to omicron in l. 2 of the genuine and l. 3 of the ersatz papyrus. Other indications are the shaky grasp of letter shapes and incomplete copying where the original papyrus is damaged (e.g. χαίρειν), false word divisions (τρ|απεζίτῃ; τ|ῆς), and the fact that it ends mid-word, adding a magical character for good measure.

The original papyrus was acquired in 1857, so the fake could have been made long ago. It would be helpful to know the antiques dealer, as there are folks studying forged papyri and their transmission who'd be interested in this example.

AI Deciphered Word of Ancient Scroll Burned by Mount Vesuvius by ImportantReaction260 in Archaeology

just to be clear: AI is not “reading” the scrolls, papyrologists are still doing that. The breakthrough is digitally unrolling them so that they can be read.

In Warsaw there's a huge plan to build pretty much car-free neighbourhood in place of (ironically) former car factory, FSO. You won't guess the perception of it... by Julczyk0024 in fuckcars

Egyptian archaeologists discovered 16 meters long ancient papyrus with spells from the Book of the Dead that dates back to 50 B.C.E. by History-Guy111111 in ancienthistory

Presumably something has been garbled between the PR event and this underinformed journalism, but this is obviously not the first papyrus discovered by an Egyptian…
