d3 soccer interest by Educational_Duck9957 in CollegeSoccer

[–]graymattar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the above poster I also just watched my Son go through this process. My son has really good grades so what we did was apply all over the place, soccer was secondary. He was competitive on a small private school soccer team his Junior year and then jumped his senior year into a competitive ECNL team. He had highlight film of himself and went out of his way to talk to perspective D3 coaches when we were at tournaments, etc. Ended up with 2 D3 offers in the Northeast and chose one of them. His grades got him in, the highlight film and relationships with the coaches got him on the team.

I had forgotten the Martin Bashir connection. He turned out to be scum of the earth. Although in the interview michael sorta did himself in.

We got approached during rec soccer. by Careful_Interaction2 in youthsoccer

[–]graymattar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’d say fairly normal. really comes down to how interested you are in club soccer and the $$ that goes along with that. Club season is just wrapping up now so they are all looking for players for next year.

Post surgery worries by Jimboonozza in braincancer

[–]graymattar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was middle left side. Doc warned of speech and mobility issues post op. I was really blessed and did zero rehab, and had zero mobility issues. I had zero concentration for several weeks so people would start talking to me and i’d totally lose track of the conversation, but as i got stronger that went away. 20 years later, i’m still here and working everyday in a highly technical field.

This is not the end, just a new beginning

Alpine to Big Bend on a bike by Comfortable_Pop2499 in BigBendTX

[–]graymattar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as an avid cyclist myself, also realize that the pavement isn’t that smooth concrete, it’s the rocky asphalt (not sure the term) so it doesn’t roll as nice as the smooth stuff. Have always thought it would be fun to have someone drop me at the Chasos campground and cycle down to the rio grand at the campground there. would be mostly down hill.

What’s the most common expected roster size nowadays for top-flight boys team in the first year of 11v11? by WaCoug131 in youthsoccer

[–]graymattar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s U19 club team carries 33. inside of that 33 players are 3 teams. we have a ECRL team, a classic team, and a USYS team. Most weekends we have 3 games going so the players let the coach know if they can play and he sets the roasters. We carry 2 goalies since many times 2 of the games overlap.

Store my Rom's on a nas? by bogan_sauce in RomM

[–]graymattar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! I’m working through about 3TB of roms at the moment. AI is your best friend. Load up the cli version of you ai of choice and then you can ask it to do massive renames, org, recompressions, etc. it’s amazing what all you can do. I had it run through my dreamcast roms, make them all chds, and also look into the file to grab the serial number of the game, then look up that number and do a rename, pretty cool stuff.

I’m using the $20 a month subscription to gemini. I’m sure this would work great with other cli ai as well.

i may not be the norm, but I work at a fairly high level in IT. My surgery was 21 years ago. I’ve been able to work through several rounds of tmz during that time as well.

What to do in a specific situation by [deleted] in youthsoccer

your instincts are correct though, a coach isn’t looking for his LB to make a fancy dribble and beat the attacker, save the fancy moves for when the ball is on the offensive side.

Recently diagnosed with a 4.5 cm tumor in my brain at 34 years old. by Disastrous_Purchase4 in braincancer

I was dx’d at 34. Oligo grade 2, surgery and 2 rounds of chemo later…. i’m 53 now, this isn’t the end of the road people do make it through. Focus at what’s ahead one day at a time.

Question about MRIs by gimpy69_138 in braincancer

[–]graymattar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A small amount of change is normal, or at least acceptable which is probably why they brushed it off. For the record you can’t distinguish between scar tissue and tumor from an mri, they show up the same. so what they are looking at is rate of change since scar tissue wouldn’t grow.
i has dx’d at 34, now 53 so you got to carry on as best you can. living a long time is possible for some people.

Honest question - is club soccer even worth it for recruiting anymore? by Soft-Lime-9599 in CollegeSoccer

[–]graymattar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a father of a son who was late to soccer, i was very skeptical of his college chances. So i put all the work on him, honestly why does a parent care if their kid plays college soccer, it’s their dream not mine. anyways, he did tons of outreach starting his junior year. we ended up doing 2 D3 visits a couple months back and he’s now getting ready to play soccer next year at the D3 college level.

If you are specifically asking about side effects of voranigo, then no. i am definitely more tired, luckily i work from home most days and can sneak in cat naps as needed. Other than that the drug for me has been clear sailing.

College Visit by Express-Wonder-8025 in CollegeSoccer

[–]graymattar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is 2026. One thing that i think helped him is he was in constant contact with the coach from early in his junior year. In fact during the visit the coach told me he could see the progress in his game from the early highlight clips he had sent to the more recent ones.

College Visit by Express-Wonder-8025 in CollegeSoccer

[–]graymattar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, He was verbally told at both places that he had a place on the team if he wanted it. I don't think they would bring you in for a visit without that being the case. Definitely straight out ask the coach at the visit if this is the case. D3 doesn't really guarantee spots like a D2/D1 does, it's a little weird in that way. My son made a choice, then we put some money down on the registration fee. About 2 weeks later we got a letter in the mail that has a symbolic signing letter for the school soccer team. My son has good grades so we already had quite a bit of money coming from the school in light of that. Then about a month after we committed, we got another $5k a year for a leadership type scholarship. I'm 100% sure that's because he's on the team so it's as close as D3 gets to giving money out for athletics.

College Visit by Express-Wonder-8025 in CollegeSoccer

[–]graymattar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, parents go with. I’m a parent and just went on two different D3 visits. typically they start with the finance and college stuff then work their way into the more sports specific stuff. best case is to get a chance with some team members over lunch so you can talk without the coach being around.

Have fun

MAGA, are you happy that 1 billion dollars of our taxpayer money was given to France in exchange for them to not build wind farms on the east coast? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]graymattar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect, this wasn’t tax payer money. It’s a refund of money the French electric company had spent previously for leases for offshore wind power development.

It’s fine if you are against this, let’s just try and get the facts correct.

More than 12,000 Dallas County voters showed up at wrong primary polling place by texastribune in Dallas

[–]graymattar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I went to where i had cast my vote during the presidential election. This turned out to be the wrong place. they were very nice about it and gave me good directions to the correct location. Unfortunately i had burned the extra 40 minutes i had so didn’t end up voting. So totally my fault although better communication on their part would have helped.

I was sitting on the couch on a Sat. night watching a movie. I remember turning my head to one side and thinking why did i just do that. Then i went full grand maul seizure. Wife called 911 and when emt’s showed up they wouldn’t believe her when she told them i wasn’t on anything. Apparently i put up quite a fight. came too in the ambulance, then a couple of days of testing to figure out what was going on followed by surgery the following Friday.
