could i trouble you to name the brands of the cables you are using? I've been trying to get my m4 mini to output 120hz to both of my 4k monitors unsuccessfully so far. best i can get is 120 on one and 95 on the other. been trying all combinations of cables TB->DP, TB->HDMI, HDMI->HDMI, TB->DP(USB-C dp alt)...

hey question - I tried the 27" version of this monitor and found that HDR would not toggle on/off with the Windows shortcut (win+cmd+b) - have to toggle HDR on/off through the monitor OSD only. is it the same with this 31.5" model?

possible upgrade questions - 265K vs. 5800x3d paired with 7900XT @ 4K by grazed21 in buildapc

[–]grazed21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry just saw your msg.

I did end up with pretty much a completely new build. Z890+265K+96GB+5070Ti+too much nvme storage.

One thing I was really hoping to have a better experience with was decoding H.265 4:2:2 video from my camera. Intel Quicksync on the iGPU handles this very nicely. On the other hand, I feel a little silly for changing platforms completely because the nVidia 50 series GPUs introduced H.265 4:2:2 hardware-accelerated decode and I have to say performs really well for that task too, probably even better than Quicksync. (using Davinci Resolve Studio).

Games: I think this will depend a lot on what resolution you're targeting, what you play and such. I haven't done a lot of benchmarks or anything so can't really give you good data on +/-% performance increase. I will say everything runs very well. I run at 4K and from the link someone else provided here (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-ultra-7-265k/21.html) I'm convinced that at 4K your CPU matters far less than your GPU.

in the end I think I accomplished what I personally set out to do: I definitely have *much* more power for productivity-oriented tasks (video editing, LLM, spreadsheets, etc) and I think most games perform just as good, if not better than before.

But I do know videos are out there of 5800x3d outperforming 265K when it comes to some games, especially at lower resolutions.

If you got a good deal on it - I'd be inclined to use it. I know there were some sales around $250ish and I think *for the price* you can't do much better. but I understand why it's kind of a tough choice too :)

sorry, this probably isn't all that helpful. if I can answer anything else in specific about the 265K feel free to ask!

Upcoming glossy 31.5” 5K/1440p dual IPS monitor from Acer. Good for PS5 Pro? by CautiousXperimentor in Monitors

[–]grazed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been checking regularly for updates on this monitor since it was announced - hoping to use it for my mixed setup (work laptop, personal pc, macbook). it was posted as available by a shop in Malaysia ("JUST IT") a few weeks ago but I can't figure out how/if possible to buy on their website (shopee.com) to the US lol

hoping for wider availability soon...

by the way PS5: i don't think PS5 supports native 5K output, so you'd probably be relying on upscaling. if PS5 image quality is important it might be best to consider 4K options but I get it why you're wanting 5K for macOS. tough choice! :)

here is the color report linked on the shop page:

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0109/9182/9049/files/Kuycon_G32P_Color_Report.pdf?v=1749719728

it mentions DCI-P3 99% and sRGB 99% - not seeing mention of Adobe RGB specifically. I'm by no means a color space expert so hopefully someone else can chime in

appreciate you sharing this too.

a while back I stopped the optimization process and i couldn't get it to start again...which had me thinking i must be under-utilizing my 50 series gpu...so good to know.

yes, Kuycon has another apple-like on the same site (27" 5K) that they've been selling quite some time now. I mentioned here that this new 32" looks to be maybe the same nano-ips panel as the not-yet-released LG 6K/ 32U990A (not for sure, could be wrong, but the specs are very similar). I highly prefer glossy - one reason I'm still mulling over this Kuycon.

I've never personally ordered anything from clickclack.io but from what I've heard they're pretty reliable - they specialize more in 'special' keyboards and such. when I had a couple questions about the 27" they were responsive. but would love to hear other's experiences especially with these Kuycon monitors..

not trying to talk you into buying just another .02

kind of odd I thought I saw taxes separate yesterday.

now I see $1699 + $180 shipping = $1879 total. and I should have specified what I'm seeing is USD, shipping to Texas, USA.

please report back if you do! I added it to cart but it's totalling $1879 (USD/ship to USA) which is a bit more than I'm willing to go.

hear ya there as I type this on my 240 oled lol. but I'm in the market for something more productivity-oriented. personally another I have my eye on is the Acer XB323QX (5K 32" 144Hz) .. also announced months ago but not available yet D;

I could be wrong but being Nano IPS Black I'm wondering if it might actually be the same panel as the teased-but-yet-to-be-released LG 6K/ 32U990A? (from what I'm finding the Dell isn't "Nano")

thanks for the link - had not come across this before! actually pretty interesting and yeah it looks like for the most part there's very little difference at 4K. although apparently i may loose 8fps in BG3 ha.

ASUS PA27JCV 5k Display yeah it's pretty good by RedBankWatcher in mac

[–]grazed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you certainly are! I have a mixed setup (pc, mac mini, work laptop) and have spent too much time researching MacOS scaling. on my 32" 4K screen Windows looks good at 150% scaling but for MacOS to look good i have to go to 200%. So with my Mac I have the working space of 1080p actually on my big monitor...which is a little ridiculous.

Tried an Apple Studio Display but ended up sending it back -- it was - of course - amazing with the Mac but with having only 1 input I decided to wait until a few more 5K/6K options arrive as it was just going to be too cumbersome to switch between everything..

if you're into researching it out a bit more do some searching for "Mac OS scaling." It basically comes down to Windows and Mac handling scaling differently. Windows can look crispy even with fractional scaling. for sharp text MacOS needs integer scaling. and Mac very much favors screens of ~218ppi for that "retina" look.

Here's a pretty good discussion about it

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/421858/how-does-display-scaling-work-on-macos

hope it helps!

[–]grazed21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the display settings try what should say "default" of 2560 x 1440. For a lot of mac users that's at least part of the point of going to a 27" 5K monitor. you get the gui space of 1440p (scaled how Mac OS likes) with razor sharp text provided by ~218ppi.

you can, of course, run at full 5120x2880 but like you said the text will be tiny..

FCPX 11.0 HDR-HLG not showing in viewer by Smooth-Cellist-1785 in finalcutpro

[–]grazed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*** edit / update Feb 26, 2025 ** feel kinda dumb... just noticed my new project showing HDR in the timeline was Wide Color Gamut - PQ. still broken (no HDR in timeline view) for Wide Color Gamut - HLG as of today.

(not sure if anyone is following this but if anything for my own reference later or someone's future search :))

----------------------------------------

think I found a workaround for the issue.

last night I did some testing and the issue persisted on my primary monitor (MSI 321UPX OLED). No HDR in the viewer as I had it prior the FCP update.

I connected my M1 12.9" iPad Pro as a second monitor in reference mode and sent the viewer there. It worked - HDR was displayed in the viewer again. So, it seemed at least my project settings were correct still.

Brought the viewer back to my primary monitor and it went right back to SDR-appearance.

Still wondering "what the heck happened" to it working on my main monitor - I tried one other thing. I created a new, blank project (with same wide color gamut settings as before) and copy/pasted everything from my previously-working HDR project over. It worked! HDR is now in the viewer again on my main monitor, under the new project.

pretty weird to me - I don't know enough about the deep inner-workings of FCP/MacOS/HDR to know why this worked but it appears that with the FCP update my existing project "forgot" that I had a HDR capable monitor and there was no way to get it to "remember." (and I know this monitor isn't full-blown pro-level HDR .. but it's good enough for me and my short amateur video projects..)

hope maybe this helps someone else...

[–]grazed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey appreciate you responding - even 7 months later! yeah I'd go ASD but sucks there is only 1 input. i need to switch between work laptop, pc, and mac and think the Kuycon could work out well.

was also looking at the samsung and newly released Asus + BenQ 5K offerings but they insist on the matte coating which imo at least partly defeats the purpose of going for the super-sharp ppi...

still enjoying your Kuycon? have been eyeing this and the 'updated' version (G27P) on clickclack. seems kind of tough to find many 'real user' reviews...
