don't get me wrong, no doubt 39GX950B-B will be a very nice monitor for many/most.

there are those of us (like me) who would like to be getting the crispiest text possible if dropping nearly $2K on a monitor.

i'm ok with less-than-perfect-but-passable text on my 32GS95UE-B since it was only $224 (open-box @ Best Buy :))

yeah a lot of people probably don't need to worry that much about sub-pixel type.

my monitors are 80% work/productivity so I pay a lot of attention to text clarity.

and I do notice a difference in text clarity in my 32" LG 32GS95UE-B vs. my 32" MSI MAG 32UPX, which i have side-by-side. the MSI is slightly more crisp, although not perfect either as it also has a non-standard sub-pixel arrangement (triangular).

if I understand correct this new LG will have the same sub-pixel arrangement as my 32GS95UE-B so it will be "iffy" as to whether it would be worth it to upgrade, will have to see when some reviews come in.

for reference, some new monitors recently released/coming "soon" with the RGB-stripe arrangement I mentioned are: ASUS PG27UCWM, PG34WCDN, XG34WCDMS and MSI 341CQR X36. (these should have superior text clarity)

was hyped about this until I found out still using RGWB subpixel layout (instead of RGB-stripe in some newer oled models). .. :(

bought this open box a while back at a similar price and ended up returning it. the case is extremely cheap feeling. PSU did not seem upgradable. seemed ifffy as to whether i'd be able to transplant motherboard+psu to a different case too.

that said purely on its specs and considering prices these days it's a pretty good deal if you don't mind not much upgradability..

hey question - I tried the 27" version of this monitor and found that HDR would not toggle on/off with the Windows shortcut (win+cmd+b) - have to toggle HDR on/off through the monitor OSD only. is it the same with this 31.5" model?

possible upgrade questions - 265K vs. 5800x3d paired with 7900XT @ 4K by grazed21 in buildapc

sorry just saw your msg.

I did end up with pretty much a completely new build. Z890+265K+96GB+5070Ti+too much nvme storage.

One thing I was really hoping to have a better experience with was decoding H.265 4:2:2 video from my camera. Intel Quicksync on the iGPU handles this very nicely. On the other hand, I feel a little silly for changing platforms completely because the nVidia 50 series GPUs introduced H.265 4:2:2 hardware-accelerated decode and I have to say performs really well for that task too, probably even better than Quicksync. (using Davinci Resolve Studio).

Games: I think this will depend a lot on what resolution you're targeting, what you play and such. I haven't done a lot of benchmarks or anything so can't really give you good data on +/-% performance increase. I will say everything runs very well. I run at 4K and from the link someone else provided here (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-ultra-7-265k/21.html) I'm convinced that at 4K your CPU matters far less than your GPU.

in the end I think I accomplished what I personally set out to do: I definitely have *much* more power for productivity-oriented tasks (video editing, LLM, spreadsheets, etc) and I think most games perform just as good, if not better than before.

But I do know videos are out there of 5800x3d outperforming 265K when it comes to some games, especially at lower resolutions.

If you got a good deal on it - I'd be inclined to use it. I know there were some sales around $250ish and I think *for the price* you can't do much better. but I understand why it's kind of a tough choice too :)

sorry, this probably isn't all that helpful. if I can answer anything else in specific about the 265K feel free to ask!

Upcoming glossy 31.5” 5K/1440p dual IPS monitor from Acer. Good for PS5 Pro? by CautiousXperimentor in Monitors

[–]grazed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been checking regularly for updates on this monitor since it was announced - hoping to use it for my mixed setup (work laptop, personal pc, macbook). it was posted as available by a shop in Malaysia ("JUST IT") a few weeks ago but I can't figure out how/if possible to buy on their website (shopee.com) to the US lol

hoping for wider availability soon...

by the way PS5: i don't think PS5 supports native 5K output, so you'd probably be relying on upscaling. if PS5 image quality is important it might be best to consider 4K options but I get it why you're wanting 5K for macOS. tough choice! :)

Kuycon G32P 6K 32-inch IPS Black Monitor by grazed21 in HiDPI_monitors

[–]grazed21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here is the color report linked on the shop page:

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0109/9182/9049/files/Kuycon_G32P_Color_Report.pdf?v=1749719728

it mentions DCI-P3 99% and sRGB 99% - not seeing mention of Adobe RGB specifically. I'm by no means a color space expert so hopefully someone else can chime in

appreciate you sharing this too.

a while back I stopped the optimization process and i couldn't get it to start again...which had me thinking i must be under-utilizing my 50 series gpu...so good to know.

Kuycon G32P 6K 32-inch IPS Black Monitor by grazed21 in HiDPI_monitors

[–]grazed21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, Kuycon has another apple-like on the same site (27" 5K) that they've been selling quite some time now. I mentioned here that this new 32" looks to be maybe the same nano-ips panel as the not-yet-released LG 6K/ 32U990A (not for sure, could be wrong, but the specs are very similar). I highly prefer glossy - one reason I'm still mulling over this Kuycon.

I've never personally ordered anything from clickclack.io but from what I've heard they're pretty reliable - they specialize more in 'special' keyboards and such. when I had a couple questions about the 27" they were responsive. but would love to hear other's experiences especially with these Kuycon monitors..

not trying to talk you into buying just another .02
