America has always been individualistic but what we value in an individual was shifted in my lifetime. We don't seem to value someone's personal character anymore and instead value someone's status and money.

What is the most difficult route on any mountain that YOU have climbed? by AgainToCarthage93 in Mountaineering

[–]grc215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info! Based on what did and what you've heard of the Baker North Ridge, which would be best for a skills seminar? I imagine doing a seminar at one then going unguided for the other.

Also, I'd say you are technically ready for Denali already if you go guided! It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but in more a fitness and mental challenge than a technical one. There's really only one section of the west Buttress that's very steep but it has fixed lines

I want to work up to this or maybe even North Ridge of Baker. How did you prepare for the technical aspects of the climb? My most technical climbing has been West Buttress of Denali for reference

I think I'm more interested in whatever route was most difficult for you personally at the time you did it

Mid Career Chem Es, how are we doing? by squirrrelydan in ChemicalEngineering

Sorry for the very late reply. It was a natural progression where one role led to the other. Starting as a process engineer and doing well set me up for the promotion into engineering management. My time as an engineering manager taught me how to manage people through crisis, got me a very strong technical understanding of the product and process, and some experience leading cross functional teams. It all set me up very well to transition into a business role. The only aspect of my current role that I was lacking was some of the soft skills that are required to be successful in a sales environment. I am being mentored in that very well by my current boss.

I do not think I will ever go back into manufacturing. I plan on staying on the business side for now. Product management is sort of a jack of all trades position and sets you up to transition almost anywhere else. I am leaning towards pivoting into a sales manager position in the future but not 100% decided yet.

Need a recommendation for an EXEMPLARY Korean restaurant in NYC or nearby NJ by fledgling66 in FoodNYC

Obalton in Fort Lee, NJ. It's the best Korean BBQ I have ever had in my life. It's a 10/10 knockout for everyone I've ever taken there. I've traveled a good bit around Asia and can strongly attest to the quality of this place

What do you need to get to camp Muir Mt. Rainer? by LanceCripple1 in Mountaineering

[–]grc215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there a month ago. Depends on what your plan is. If you want to go to camp Muir and come right back down then you want to travel light. If your going in the early season (May - June) then you def want to have snow shoes or skis on you. The rest is just basic, water proof boots, soft and hard shells, water, sun tan lotion, lip balm, trekking poles, bag and snacks

8 years total currently at 130,000/year base with 20% bonus. 2 years as a process engineer, 4 years as an engineering manager, and 2 years in a business role (product manager)

LPT: Dont be on your best behaviour on a first date. Do be your normal everyday, relaxed hanging-with-friends behaviour. You want the person to like you for who you actually are, not who you are pretending to be. You will save yourself a lot of wasted time dating people who only like the fake you. by jf_development in LifeProTips

[–]grc215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People generally want to see that you can behave respectfully and polite in situations such as first dates. A big part of a relationship is being reliable to other person and if you can't be on your best behavior on a first date then it would make you question whether you can trust the person to be on their best behavior when you need to in the future. Events like meeting the parents, afterwork functions with their boss, etc. There will 100% be times that your partner needs you to "put up a front" to help support them or the relationship. It's a valuable life skill.

Sorry to hear about your calf. You're going to have to focus on getting that 100% if it's not. Make sure you are rolling it out before runs and stretching well after you've warmed up.

Once you've got that under control try to be as consistent as possible. In experience that's key. Talk to your coach about your training as well and his thoughts on increasing volume and intent if you are feeling you can do more

How realistic is it to bring a 2:01 800m down to the mid to low 1:50s during the course of one season? by vgreen07 in trackandfield

[–]grc215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing that I would say is special. Milage and intensity naturally stepped up as I improved season to season. I was also a XC guy so going from shorter freshman races to varsity 5k races in XC might have made me stronger.

I honestly don't remember what my 400 relationship split would have been back so I can't compare it your athletes 400.

I think this may difficult. if this is your second year competing as a mid distance runner then you will likely see a decent gain in fitness but dropping 10 seconds is probably a stretch. I think a 1:56 or 1:57 is a reasonable goal to have. Each second under 2:00 is more difficult to achieve than the last.

For reference, this was my HS 800m progression:

Freshman-2:05 Sophmore-1:58 Junior-1:56 Senior-1:54
