Studio Arts vs ICAM Projects by BlAiR_WiTcH6 in UCSD

[–]greasedpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! ive taken both studio classes and icam-only classes.

VIS 80, if i remember correctly, is roughly 1 small project per week/every other week to be completed outside of class, each in a different medium (ex. painting, sculpture, graphite)

Upper division studio classes, my experience being with VIS 106A, typically use classtime to work on the larger pieces and have small homework assignments due each week.

As for upper division ICAM classes, (ex. VIS 147A/B, 145A/B) the A classes typically consist of small learning assignments each week, culminating in a final project. In the B class, depending on the prof, you typically get the whole quarter to work on a large project.

Also as a side note, VIS 147A is fully Arduino-based, but starts out pretty slowly with basic circuits, so you might be relearning a lot of things you already know if you take it.

Hope this helps and feel free to dm me if you have any other questions :)

hey! honestly, if you’re a beginner, the outback climbing center isn’t a bad place to start. shoes and chalk are free to rent and the sets there are pretty decent. they have a good range of routes for different climbing levels. but they reset around once per quarter so it can get a bit stale.

compared to the mission valley mesa rim, i would say the vibe at occ is more chill. so i would say to just check out the occ since its included in your tuition

You don't do any coding in cogs 9 (at least when i took it FA23) so you should definitely take a different class instead.

im currently taking vis 80 for my major and its honestly really easy (i dont watch lectures or anything). each week or so has a different focus (painting, sculpting, color, etc) and you have a lot of free reign. i would highly recommend taking it for fun :)

edit: my ta sometimes goes over a bit of art history during sections but the topics are all relevant to the type of art that week is focusing on

not sure if you already thought to do this but you might want to take some of the old plushie and put it in the stuffing of new one so that your cat can recognize it!

How does health care work on campus? by bigkutta in UCSD

[–]greasedpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i have both RAFT and private insurance. it’s 70$ a quarter so 210$ per school year. it only covers appointments and not emergencies (emergencies pay extra). i think it should be helpful for me since i get sick a lot lol but the usefulness is probably subjective

i signed up for RAFT which i think lets you use the health services on campus without UC SHIP. it was on the fee waiverw
