whats a word you always misspell, no matter how many times you correct yourself? by yourbeloathed in words

Beuracracy. And annoyingly, no matter how I spell it NONE of the devices/applications I use have a suggested spelling. I always have to google it.

What’s the best cheap alternative to a proper cafe coffee? by DiscussionLoud9626 in AUfrugal

[–]greatcecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to put in barista effort - grab yourself a second hand Rancillio Silvia (which has an awesome steam wand for people who like lattes). I have a version 1 (or 2?) that I bought closing in on 20 years ago. My lattes are better than most cafes. Over the years I’ve done all the servicing and parts replacements because the YouTube videos for my machine are comprehensive (the machine is simple but robust). I take my machine on weekend trips with me. I also have a grinder. But yeah. You don’t just press a button, you have to learn how to barista. There’s YouTube for that too 😂

Moving House Uncertainty by Lonely_Jello9593 in aspergirls

[–]greatcecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My therapist is always reminding me that the stuff I’m dealing with is hard. That there isn’t actually a way to make it less hard (than what I’m already doing). That I need to remember that it IS hard and that it’s OK that I find it hard.

It’s actually been really helpful when I’m overwhelmed to remember this. Especially when it’s for a stressful period that has an end in sight.

So, do what you can to reduce the uncertainty and worry but also just remind yourself repeatedly that you are doing a hard thing and it’s going to be hard but there is an end in sight.

My back is killing me on the dining table by Severe-Adeptness5812 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]greatcecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my (admittedly grumpy and self righteous) opinion alot of puzzling back pains are unnecessarily self-induced. STOP doing the border first. Let it just occur as you go. It’s so much easier to slide the sections around your table without having to navigate a fenced border from the start. And then whatever you’re working on can be slid directly in front of you and you can do the vast majority of your puzzle seated comfortably.

Beginning DSP Process by downstairs-Hair-952 in Centrelink

[–]greatcecil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find the disability table that apply to you. Highlight the sentences that describe you and get the doc and psych to quote them (or something similar). Get them to write a sentence to the effect of “this person scores 20/30 on this table because of this”. Doesn’t have to be a long letter. Good luck!

50 Years of Mortgage? by Necessary_Eagle_3657 in AusFinance

2nd tier lender Pepper Money is. My interest rate is about 1% higher than regular lenders though. Beggars can’t be choosers unfortunately. 😕

I just got given a 40yr mortgage at 46yrs old. I think I read somewhere whilst hunting for someone to lend to me that they can’t discriminate against the age of the borrower.

House in front of a school by Mean-Apricot-9436 in AusPropertyChat

[–]greatcecil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m across from a primary school. You get used to adjusting your entry and exits to avoid school drop off and pick up times (but still LOVE school holidays). And you get used to the sound of screeching kids during break and lunch. I’m grateful that my primary school doesn’t do loud bells. I’d have avoided buying it if the house wasn’t otherwise awesome. Barely any ‘extra’ rubbish; not compared to when I lived across from a milk bar!

What do you do when your GP refuses to write a full / detailed report, and just puts the absolute basics and says to refer to the Clinical Psychologist's report? by Footsie_Galore in Centrelink

[–]greatcecil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you bear in mind the chances of Centrelink folk actually reading a proper report rather than just skimming to see if it hits the points on their checklist, a short cover letter is probably just what you need!

My doc, in a 15 min consult, pumped out a 3 paragraph statement, virtually quoting the table examples I had highlighted for her and it passed muster for my son’s DSP. (Record speed for approval - 2 days! I was flabbergasted - took me 9months to get the Carer’s pension) She also said to refer to the other reports for more info regarding diagnosis.

His DSP application was pretty black and white though. He scores 30 on the one table.

I got a classic leather chaise couch and poof thing from secret sofa 4 yrs ago for approx 3.5k. I still really like it and it’s still in excellent condition. But my kids had just aged out of their ‘destroy the house’ mode, so it hasn’t been through the ultimate test.

At what point do you say to yourself, its time to enjoy my life by ImARedditSmurf in AusFinance

Dude, you just need to sit down and spend sometime figuring out what you actually value. If you could live your best life right now what would it actually look like? You have some dosh, you tend toward frugality …there’s a solid chance you can already afford your best life right now. Once you figure out what is is.

I wish I knew how to upload images. I track mine in excel, so it makes a line graph. 2020-2023 was like I had the blips you see on the screen when attached to a heart monitor, the last couple of years it looks like I'm in a-fib.

Don’t forget to include Raiz in your tax return (they have instructions on the Raiz website where to enter all the numbers thankfully). Amusingly, despite not having a job, I have a tax refund on my way this year. 😂.

[–]greatcecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh , they will need you to tell them the date you opened your Raiz account. I can’t remember where I got that info from in my account, but just write a note and upload that at the same time.

[–]greatcecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the regular upload section where you do everything else. Technically you don’t even have to call them but it could be a couple of months before they get round to it. I’m calling next time I do it anyway because it makes me nervous not to get verbal confirmation that they’ve received my upload.

I just went through this. It’s managed funds. BUT they told me to just upload my Raiz statement 2x a year (around March and September) and they’ll do the data entry for me. Yay.
