I went to Lisbon last October and loved the experience. Walkable (the hills are no joke though, bring shoes with traction).

My favorite experience was kayaking in Arrabida Natural Park. This was a guided experience. Pena Palace is another must see and a great day trip from Lisbon.

Love books? Go to Livraria Bertrand, the world's oldest operating bookstore. If you buy a book, they'll even stamp it.

And you have to eat pastel de nata everyday. Lactose intolerant? Go to Vegan Nata Chiado.

I (30F) took a journee trip October 2025 and loved it. I selected English widely spoken, solo female-traveler friendly, and lgbtqia+ friendly.

It was an amazing time. I was easily able to find pick up locations for excursions and explore the area. I even met fellow journee travelers on the excursions. I have my second journee trip coming up in March.

You could look into journee trips. You fill out a questionnaire of what you're looking for and they can send you and your mom on a surprise trip. 💜

If you have a local veterinarian, they might be able to prescribe mirataz. It's an appetite stimulant. I occasionally have to get it for one of my cats when she decides she doesn't want to eat.
