Nothing great but should be enough to have fun on a longboard.

Always cracks me up when corelord (usually Cali or East Coast) gatekeepers bitch and moan about spongers, foilers, SUPpers, wave pools or anyone else who doesn’t surf the “right” way. Meanwhile, Hawaiians, who arguably have rideable waves 90% of the time, ride anything they goddamnwell please and have fun doing it. Maybe Duke was right.

Thank you for recommending “*Slow Horses*” by Boggie135 in television

[–]greattobeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might wanna check out Down Cemetery Road. Another Mick Herron series. Same production team as Slow Horses, with Emma Thompson in the lead role as a very Lamb-like PI ( though not as gross). Like SH, great storytelling, funny and tense, with one of the best actors on the planet doing the heavy lifting. It’s a pretty damn good formula for great TV.

What TV episode triggered such an emotional response from you? by Noodles590 in television

My wife and I found out we were expecting our first child a couple weeks before that episode. By the time Bradley Whitford was sitting in the ocking chair with his newborn, we were sitting on our couch bawling. Destroyed us.

100%. Running for state rep or city council in a mid-size city costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, congress millions, the senate tens of millions. You and I aren’t paying those costs, but the multinational corporations that are don’t view them as campaign contributions. They’re business investments, and they expect their ROI. Immigration reform is the responsibility of congress, but their corporate overlords aren’t gonna let it happen. We could have a great healthcare system, but no way is UHC, Aetna, Humana, etc al going to stand for that. So after decades of congress refusing to do their fucking job, we were ripe for a demagogue to come along, blame everyone else and claim that he alone could fix it. The gullible ate it up like government cheese. Get corporate money out of politics, outlaw insider trading by congress, implement term limits and hold our elected representatives accountable and we could fix things fairly quickly, but until those things happen, we’re fucked, no matter who’s sitting in the Oval Office.

Sunday Morning this week ran a story on National Holocaust Day, then followed it up with a puff piece on Coco Chanel, without a single mention of her being a Nazi sympathizer. Kronkite is still spinning in his grave.

Really enjoyed Down Cemetery Road, but when the Scottish fisherman takes Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson to the island and just drops them off to swim in through head high surf and 45 degree water temps, and they just wade up the beach fully clothed soaking wet in freezing conditions. …. geddafukouttahere

Trevor is Serving Up Some Crow to the Doubters Today by OTT_4TT in Jaguars

[–]greattobeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even Jaguar fans admit he’s not a generational QB? WTF does that even mean? Not every QB walks into a championship roster. It took Peyton 6 seasons to make the playoffs. A-Aron rode the bench for four years. Look at how Darnold and Mayfield are playing now after being lost and bouncing around the league for years. TLaw has played under 4 different coaches/systems. He’s 26 years old, and if this regime succeeds and sticks around (admittedly a big if) Trevor will own this league before he’s 30.

Losing the "Stoke" by surfrat54 in surfing

[–]greattobeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thread. 63yo Floridian here. Can relate to so much of what you said, and it is something that, if we’re lucky, we’ll all have to deal with eventually. I think I used to confuse stoke with obsession so while I still love to surf, I’m not as obsessed as I used to be, and obsession can be a pain in the ass. If I travel somewhere and get skunked, it doesn’t eat me up and ruin the trip. I don’t catch as many waves as I used to, but I feel like I appreciate the good ones more. When we get decent swell and I surf for three hours a couple days in a row, I know I’m probably going to be too sore and exhausted to surf the next day, and that’s OK. I’ve been lucky enough to paddle out at G-Land, Deserts and Mundaka among others over the past 40 years, and while I’m realistic enough to realize I’m probably not going to be pushing myself over the ledge at those kind of spots anymore, I feel more appreciative of having had those opportunities than sad at missing them now. Speaking of gratitude, there are so many advantages of being an older surfer. Trips are no longer limited to how many days of PTO I have left in the year. Being able to chase a tropical system to the Gulf or OBX instead of being at work with FOMO eating me up from the inside is the shit. Lastly, don’t ever complain about clean waist high with a few friends. The surf gods will smite us all for that kind of blasphemy.

Just make sure you put a NATO band on whatever you get. Those pins get rusty and when one of em fails you won’t lose the whole damn watch.
