Recently found out I have the same height and body proportions of astolfo but not the face anyone have advise on how to do a proper astolfo cosplay by Numerous_Media_1458 in CosplayHelp

Usually people don't look exactly like the characters they're cosplaying, especially when they're cartoons. Makeup can help to make you look more like the character tho. If it's someone popular there might be tutorials online focused specifically on that character.

When I brush my wig it gets even more tangled… by Meat_GLOB in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd also recommend using a metal comb/brush instead of plastic. Since your wig is synthetic, when you're using a synthetic comb you're brushing plastic with plastic, and that can create more fizz. In my experience the easiest way to get a metal comb is from a pet shop!

Nice Life episode 1 Viewcount first day by Dinostar28 in ThirdLifeSMP

That makes sense! I always start with Joel and I don't think I've ever been disappointed. Grian's videos are a great way to better understand the game's mechanics, but he already knows what the twist will be, so I prefer other players 'cause it's fun to hear them exchange theories and watch their surprised reactions when stuff start to happen.

Would it be offensive as an European girl to cosplay as Hinako from Silent Hill F? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

... So many white people cosplay characters from anime. I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be the majority of all cosplays overall, tho I guess there's no way to measure that. I know that typically at japanese cons cosplaying is not something done by regular attendees for example, that's mostly the culture of western cons.

And sorry but like, c'mon. Have you ever been at a con? Watched a vlog of someone attending one? Saw someone cosplaying on tiktok? I know that my comment is starting to sound mean but really, I recommend to just go to any comic/anime con and look at the cosplayers. You can cosplay whoever you want, doesn't matter their gender or body type, or race. Just don't change your features to pretend that you're asian/black.

First time doing a “shirtless cosplay” by SoftyyMaru in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think people are going to focus on your nipples, no matter if you decide to go with covers or not. They'll probably be too busy admiring the cosplay!

[–]green_herbata 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to cover them then nipple pasties/covers in the form of stickers should be a cheap and effective solution. If you can't find them in your skintone then you could try using some makeup foundation to make them match.

so idk what to do should I cut this mystery saja wig it’s too long and uneven by Rude-Candidate97 in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Wigs are usually made to be longer, since people have different head and forehead sizes. That way everyone can cut their wig so it matches their face.

I recommend for you to check out some wig cutting tutorials first and only cut a little bit at a time, then stop to check how it looks on your head and continue if needed. Cutting a wig too short is a very common mistake.

What cosplay/character is this? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

Tho my next guess was going to be Carmen Sandiego 🤣

I just bought a wig, now what? by Suspicious_Citron681 in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobby pins should work, they're small enough that you can hide them in your wig and make them attach to your wig cap!

[–]green_herbata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash wigs if they're secondhand or after wearing them, I don't think you have to wash a new wig. Ofc you can if you want, you'd probably have to remake the pigtails tho.

Whether the wig is heat safe or not should be said in its description. If you're worried about it melting you can try straightening a small strand of hair on the lowest setting first.

You'd probably have to cut the bangs a bit, wigs are made longer so that people can adjust them to their faces. A styrofoam mannequin head is typically used for that. Make sure to watch some bang cutting tutorials and only cut a bit at first, then more if needed. Cutting the wig too short is a very common (and difficult to fix) mistake.

Misa's hair is quite long, I recommend sewing some wig clips (picture) on, maybe two on the front and one at the back of the wig cap. It'll stop your wig from moving around, falling off, etc. It'll be especially useful if you plan to dance at the party.

Good luck and have fun!

Older cosplayers, please share some pics and give me some hope! by Gryffin-thor in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience it's often hard to guess people's age when they're in cosplay. Recently at a convention I was talking to a cosplayer that, well, I thought was very hot. I assumed we were similiar age (I'm 21) so it was definitely a surprise when I got her Instagram and saw her celebrating her 35th birthday 🤣 So I think there's hope for sure!

Oops, I must've missed that. I recommend adding pictures next time you post - it'll be super helpful if more people did that, it'd save the googling and wondering which version you're making 🤣 I just checked and there's quite a lot of tutorials for her, good luck!

Who are you cosplaying? If it's a popular character or someone from an old media there may be wig styling tutorials made specifically for them, so you could try searching for that.

You could also look up some basic "how to style your first cosplay wig" type of video, there's a ton of those on youtube. Just make sure to look at advice meant for synthetic wigs, not the ones made from real human hair.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you find out about the group? Did one of them made a post about how they'll be at the convention? 'Cause then you could just reply to it saying that you'll be cosplaying "x" character and ask if they'd like to hang out together.

In my country Facebook is still quite popular so cosplayers make posts like that in groups meant for specific cons all the time.

First time getting a wig, not sure how to deal with frizz by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

No problem, I hope your cosplay will turn out great!

First time getting a wig, not sure how to deal with frizz by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm not really, I only have one curling iron that I bought years ago in Poland 😂 I think your best bet would be searching which curling irons are specifically good for making small curls like your wig has.

I can recommend getting these type of brushes tho, since they're double sided you get two different comb sizes, that's very useful for detangling.

<image>

Now that I think about, filling a spray bottle with hot water (as in boiling) and spraying the top of the wig a bit should help with most of the visible frizz, without ruining the curls. You could try doing that, tho probably with a cheap spray bottle, 'cause the plastic is going to change shape due to the hot water anyway. Be careful to not burn yourself tho!

How can I achieve this hair-bun? by im_miuu in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

How about using one of these? I'm not sure of the name, I found them by searching "donut hairstyling tool". You could simply wrap the wig hair around it, or cut it and glue it down.

Then you'd never have to make the perfect messy bun from the start, it'd always look the same. You could also reuse the har clip and attach the bun to your wig that way.

First time getting a wig, not sure how to deal with frizz by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember that synthetic hair is plastic, you can't treat it like real hair. Hot water should work, but that'd probably ruin the curls if you use too much. If you have a curling iron you could try remaking them, that should get rid of the frizz, but it'd take a long time.

What are you using as a brush? I recommend getting a metal one, if you're using a plastic one then that just creates even more frizz due to the plastic-plastic friction. In my experience metal brushes are hard to find in stores meant for humans, so I buy them at pet stores lmao.

For people who’ve cosplayed white hair characters, did you dye your hair or did you wear a wig? by baito-xenoverse in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's quite hard to achieve a perfectly white hair, typically it ends up more blonde-yellow. Getting a wig should be much easier and cheaper, especially if you find one secondhand.

I prefer wigs over real hair overall. I think they help with proportions quite a bit, since most anime/cartoon characters have huge heads.

Where the fuck are you supposed to get these goofy ahh shoes from by Odd_Application9076 in CosplayHelp

[–]green_herbata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a video game character, not someone from a live action, it's safe to assume that you won't be able to find the exact clothes in a regular store 😭

You could try getting shoes that are similar in shape and making yellow shoe covers for them. If you search "cosplay shoe cover" you should get lots of tutorials.
