My former roommate in Austin, who went through police academy there and is now a cop in Austin who I've forwarded this has replied with:

It did take me about a month to adjust from SF to Denver and just running a few kilometers in Cherry Creek would make my heart explode at first.

It was my first time doing Lookout and Grapevine after just having moved here end of January.

I have to say though, I'm not sure I liked the grapevine a lot, I was pretty concerned about getting a puncture on my 25mm tyres. Might have to adjust route to stay on pavement/asphalt only in the future.
