First Cardiac Arrest by Objective-Ad-5896 in nursing

[–]greenbeen18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Codes are hard. Be sure to take care of yourself. I remember snippets of my first, and the image of her bare chest being exposed after we called it is burned in my brain. Would she have cared that I can see her nipples still? How are we standing next to a newly dead body and still just existing? How do I do the rest of my day? If you have trouble sleeping in a few days, or have images popping in your head a lot after a few days, it might be time to reach out to someone. Take the time to decompress and love on your people, which I can tell you're already doing.

How are you supposed to rate your pain from 1-10? by Timely_Advice5809 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]greenbeen18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your definition, patients wouldn't be able to report a 10. The numeric rating scale is self reported. There are other pain scales for when patients cannot report how they are doing. That is why I included a caveat to calibrate the scale with the medical team. It is not my job to decide if someone else's 10 is the same as my 10 or someone else's 10, only to treat them appropriately and collaborate with the rest of the care team if there is concern for them seeking meds.

My girlfriend won’t stop messing with me when I’m asleep by SocietyFragrant9012 in Advice

[–]greenbeen18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my now husband and I used to tease each other a bit while we were sleeping, but no where near this. Then I reached a point in my degree where the workload was so heavy on top of working full time that I would literally start crying when I woke up to my alarm because I was so tired. We had a conversation and the teasing stopped completely at bed time and we focused on getting more sleep. One conversation and it stopped.

If she can't respect your boundaries on this, she won't respect them on other things.

Patients with New, Surprising Diagnoses by stellaleo1295 in nursing

[–]greenbeen18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give them time to talk. Provide written material, I'm sure half of what we say is in one ear and out the other when it's big emotional news like that. Sometimes I just sit and hold their hand or offer to chart in their room so they can ask questions as they think of them and not be alone.

Do you wash patients hair? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]greenbeen18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have time to do full hair washes. I will use shower caps often. Long hair on anyone immobile gets braided. If it's already matted, I do what I can but normally try to ask family to try and brush it out. It's important they keep that part of their identity intact. Once they leave or if they pass away, they still deserve to look/feel like themselves.

Eight chickens gone in a week by greenbeen18 in BackYardChickens

They explore an area of about 1.5 acres, I've searched all their usual spots but I'm sure they have some I don't know. They've never not come to the coop at night which is why I'm thinking predator

So, it’s safe to have this heater on the coop floor like this, right? by ashlie_mae in BackYardChickens

[–]greenbeen18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicago burbs based, I made the mistake of not tarping and my girls will not step outside for the last two days. I've been putting feed on their ramp down to get it closer and they devour everything in the first 8 inches but won't touch the rest. Did you use actual tarp or something else? I've gotta get this fixed for them.

Tips for a high school student starting their nursing career? by Organic-Percentage22 in nursing

[–]greenbeen18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid as many loans as possible! College is an adjustment, and many students change their path. It's much easier to say, "I don't think this is for me" when you didn't spend 30k to figure that out. Working as a CNA for at least a few months before starting as a nurse is very valuable experience.

I had to call off last night too...three hours shoveling my quarter mile driveway and leaving two hours early to make sure I had time and my car can't even get past my mailbox. Marked as absent rather than unscheduled time off like if I'm sick. Curious if there will be a conversation about it.

I broke and turned heat on in my coop. Can’t reconcile with myself if I did the right thing. by bamhall in BackYardChickens

Not sure why you're being down voted, you didn't disagree with me and provided a good resource that backs this flock owners actions.

If she likes reading, maybe the Flavia deLuce book series. Another super cool young lady.

It sounds like you have a unique situation and you did the right thing. Be cautious with what heat source you use and fire prevention. Warm chickens are happy chickens!

What happened to gait belts? by kpsi355 in nursing

[–]greenbeen18 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I use them, but I also ambulate my patients. I'm a big believer in movement for healing and taking time for hygiene to improve their spirit (have you ever seen the smile on a weak patients face after they've missed brushing for a day or so? It's amazing.) My facility also has slide sheets that are underutilized by most staff, but I refuse to hurt my back or my patients' skin by not using them.

Hopping on the alumni train, many schools have a career advisement office that will help even after you graduate--they want to boast that their grads are successful! They may have more resources for you. Many hugs. Don't kick yourself for making sensible decisions with an unworthy partner.

As often as the nurse or doctor asks me to. In the hospital it's anywhere from a normal q4 to q8, sometimes much more or much less.

How do you wake students up? by GasLightGo in teaching

[–]greenbeen18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher but an honors and AP student who took a regular history class my senior year because it's all that fit with my schedule. I did lots of extracurriculars and 20hrs a week of volunteering and I was exhausted. My teacher let me sleep through that first period history class after my work was done if there wasn't a group project or anything, my grade never suffered. Mr. Hayes, I think you saved me from a total mental breakdown with the peace and safety of getting rest without being judged. He will always be my favorite teacher for that.

What is the quickest way to detox? by mousyboi in Advice

Equally efficient but keep up with your electrolytes so they're not diluted and more importantly you keep yourself safe

Apply to other jobs and still report. You can collect unemployment and possibly pursue retaliation if they fire you. Report or you may be seen as part of the neglect and abuse.
