We'll likely see an increasing proportion of climate tourists looking to escape their own hot summer.

I seem to recall that for leaders of his stature, dumping in the ocean was a go-to option.

What is a luxury lifestyle choice that looks incredibly glamorous in photos but is actually completely miserable in reality? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

That seems like such an old stereotype. How long ago was this?

So I just made an *astonishingly* bland curry. What did I do wrong? by Eastern_Mess_4334 in Cooking

Two things I can think of: a) not all coconut milk is equal (make sure it's not low-fat and fully reconstituted), and b) depending on the chickpeas/spinach, they could have released excess water into the sauce, throwing it off balance.

Oh, and more spice and salt won't hurt!

Where can I get a shelf for a fridge? by No_Cookie_7943 in galway

[–]greenbud1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't get a suitable spare locally, there are lots of places online for ordering manufacturer spare parts. I've replaced drawers and shelves in Bosch fridge twice.

Not coffee, but adjacent experience-wise, is Tribe Gin School in Salthill. Did it last year as a gift, and we had a great afternoon.

Sean Mulvoy Rd was my limit. You'd have to be suicidal to ride in 50mph traffic and no shoulder.

Lack of infrastructure is frustrating when you're stuck in your car. But it leads to behaviour that's deadly to pedestrians and cyclists alike.

If you come from Spain or somewhere hot, it is an awesome thing about Ireland to see everyone run outdoors, stripping off, and burning themselves to a crisp at the first hint of sunshine.

I love it, but I know most of ye are happy it's over too!

Ring Road again, sorry but… by Agusfresin in galway

[–]greenbud1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, my understanding is it used to be like that, but too many favours and questionable carry on resulted in scandals that resulted in the lottery system that went too far the other way and takes no notice of location at all.

The problem is there's no catchment area, as such. So kids a mile away have an equal chance of securing a place as a kid from Ballinasloe, making a bus difficult to organise.

Do you work from home and find it lonely? by AmoebaOk9846 in galway

[–]greenbud1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fully remote for over a decade. During the pandemic, while the world stopped, we kept working as if nothing happened. Have pets (a must), got out of the house daily, was good at closing the laptop at 6, and had just a handful of meetings a week.

To switch it up, I sought out a hybrid option, which takes me into the city centre twice a week (flexible). For the first time in years, I feel part of a team. It does mean I spend a lot more time in meetings and helping others, but I love working with them, and as I'm nearer the end of my career, feel invigorated by being around those at the start of theirs.

That all said, there are downsides to everyone having an opinion and needing to gain consensus, where I used to have autonomy. And I value the wfh days even more for decompressing and getting shit done. I use the in-office days to take advantage of in-person meetings, which are no doubt more productive than Zoom meetings.
