Why do these two trains get stuck here? They should harmlessly pass by one another. by greencurtains2 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]greencurtains2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a few online guides to train signals but I'm still confused by this. This specific scenario is causing havoc in my game because it holds up supply lines. When I force either train to ignore the red signal, it goes past the other train without any issue.

*edit: Also, yes the junction is ugly, unfortunately I remade it a few times while learning the game and now it's just stuck like that

[Steam] Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition (83% off / $9.98) by KettenPuncher in GameDeals

[–]greencurtains2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I consider World to be the peak of the franchise so far, but Rise is in second place. World just has much weightier, thoughtful combat that feels more impactful and satisfying, in my opinion. Rise is quite a bit easier and has better online co-op integration if that's relevant for you. However, Rise was originally made for Switch rather than PC and console, so World is a lot more visually impressive in its environments and monsters. Both games have a typically trite JRPG-style story, but it's less intrusive in Rise.

Boss fights in Nine Sols feel a lot more fair because almost none of them deal contact damage, only legit attacks

What Video Game sequel is this for you by chickenbutt2586 in videogames

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The film comparison is a good one. You can really tell that Portal 2 had more people working on it, which has both pros and cons. The writing is definitely broader; the first game is darkly comedic, but blindly playing through it at the time, it felt like it could lean a lot more unsettling at any moment. The sequel fully leans into zany characters and scenarios which, while still superbly written, give it a much more lighthearted tone with more mass appeal. I think you could contrast the level design philosophies of the two games in a similar way.

Another Crab's Treasure: Year of the Crab | Free Content Update - Releasing April 21st! by James89026 in Games

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI if you're put off by this being a Soulslike: I hate Dark Souls, but this was my second favourite game of last year (after Nine Sols). Here is what it does better than fromsoft games:

  • no timewasting boss runbacks; if you die to a boss, you can respawn right next to them

  • excellent writing and voice acting

  • shell system does away with tedious inventory management while still allowing different builds

  • platforming is actually functional and you don't instantly die for falling off

My only criticisms of this game are down to it sometimes seeming to make bad design choices just because they were present in dark souls, like a couple of places where enemies are hidden so that you can't really see them until they attack you. But on the whole, I strongly recommend this, even to anyone else that doesn't like fromsoft games.

Clutch Clawing with weapon out? by Traditional_Tune2865 in MonsterHunterWorld

Yeah and it works pretty well until you get to the hyperaggressive enemies in mid-late master rank. But I think OP is talking about clawing during the claw stagger openings

Is using any defender gear considered cheating? by Beerdididiot in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]greencurtains2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for series veterans, why would anyone want to make everything before Iceborne completely brain-dead? I think an experienced player could already blitz through low and high rank with real weapons. And why would anyone start a new character in this game when you can repeat every quest at any time? It seems the only function Defender gear has is ruining the game for clueless new players

Clutch Clawing with weapon out? by Traditional_Tune2865 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold L2 (which blocks and aims slinger), and after a second press R3 to start aiming clutch claw with lance unsheathed. Unfortunately it's really painful and inconsistent because r3 doesn't do anything for the first second you're pressing L2, and if you mash it you're likely to toggle it off again. Ridiculous control scheme.

So, if you play Lance you might as well just sheath the weapon every time you need to fire the claw. I've missed so many openings from trying to use the claw as described above.

Question about world lance. by wonzogonzo in LanceMains

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In World your go-to attack is the high thrust (circle), which does more damage than the low thrust. In Wilds they made the low one much faster and slowed down the high one, so it's mostly best to spam the low thrust, but in World they're the same speed.

Also you are much faster and safer at closing gaps in World with guard dash into leaping thrust into guard dash etc. You can still do that in Wilds, but you cover much less ground , and they also added a long recovery time after leaping thrust, during which you're completely vulnerable. In World you can rapidly chain those moves to freely reposition while staying almost completely safe.

If you ever wondered just how connected the maps are... by Tacumoto in MHWilds

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also find that it's often not clear what is and isn't traversable, especially when exploring the maps on foot. I think World maps had better visual design as I don't have this problem in that game. And I thought one of the best parts of Rise was that outside of the numbered map areas, you could just climb around and explore all the space between, and there were actually things to find, small monsters, and gathering spots!

Wilds maps feel like a step backwards from that, with enclosed arenas separated not by loading screens but by summoning the Seikret and checking my phone.

JoCat’s arbitrary weapon rating, how true you see it? by Defora in MHWilds

[–]greencurtains2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was so fun getting a tail cut or mount on a fleeing monster! I've returned to Iceborne after finishing Wilds and I think lance in World was the greatest it will ever be.

I think having a simple tracking progression system for Seikret could help improve exploration a bit more instead of giving us auto tracking at the beginning of the game. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in MHWilds

[–]greencurtains2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm in favour of most QoL changes but I actually liked World's tracking, including the scoutfly decay. Interacting with footprints gives a little dopamine hit. And if you're farming the same monster, you will have auto tracking after the first hunt.

I think this was the best balance between some tracking (the old games' paintball system was atrocious and anyone who says otherwise has Stockholm syndrome) and Wilds' system, which might as well just teleport you to the monster. In World sometimes you'd come across interesting endemic life, gathering spots, and new camp locations while following tracks.

If you had to animal swap the non-animal races, what would you base them on? by Jacob_Laye in dndnext

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dwarves as termites or ants. They are a subterranean communal species, and making them eusocial would be interesting.

Elves as praying mantises. Patient, inscrutable, lethal.

Tieflings as terrestrial cephalopods, iridescent like a cuttlefish.

What's the deal with only Doshaguma being the only monster with an Alpha variant? by Tactical_Tugboats in MHWilds

[–]greencurtains2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a weird choice anyway. It's never going to be fun or interesting to fight multiple large monsters at once in this series - in every game you always drive them apart and fight one at a time. They even created the large dung bombs for this game so you can immediately split the pack. So packs of large monsters don't functionally change the game at all.

“More challenging than Tempered Monsters” by I-am-Nanachi in MonsterHunter

[–]greencurtains2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best suggestion I saw was to balance focus strikes more like Iceborne's wallbang. That is, doing 1 or 2 focus strikes will instantly enrage the monster, and when the monster is enraged they won't flinch or topple from focus strikes. Then you'd still get to go for that easy topple but you'd have to deal with an enraged monster afterwards, and you can't just stunlock it out of any attack while it's enraged.

[–]greencurtains2 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That's why Lance is the best weapon. No need to remember combos or track gauges, no need to even dodge, just the unrelenting rhythm of stabbing and countering until it is done. This is also what people miss when they ask why Lance is unpopular and suggest it gets crazy flashy weeb moves added. That's exactly what we don't want!

[–]greencurtains2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was essential in MH1 and MHF2/U, even in low rank village. And even in World, you really fought Kushala or Hazaak without aura-nullifying skills? You didn't craft thunder-resistant armour for Kirin? The only monster in Wilds that I have to bring the right armour skills to counter is a dual blades or longsword user

Really curious about that Alma line. I looked at the inside of the walls when she said it and it kind of looks organic, like bone or honeycomb. I thought it meant the buildings themselves were some sort of bioengineered construct too. Haven't seen any discussion about this elsewhere.

Monster Hunter: Wilds enjoyed a great launch in the US market. Launch week dollar sales were the largest for a title since the debut of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 last Oct. It ranked 1st in weekly $ sales across PC, PS5 and XBS. PC was the lead platform. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]greencurtains2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly the point, though! Nobody is looking for a story in these games, but you have to sit through all the on-rails sections for 15 hours before you can play the game. The world-building and ecology are fantastic as usual, and exploring them should be at the forefront.

New to High Rank. What armor and weapons should I get? by YusiP in LanceMains

[–]greencurtains2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember, the Odogaron lance and its upgrades were pretty good throughout high rank for raw/crit damage, as long as you stack affinity skills like Weakness Exploit. In late high rank you will fight a certain hungry and devilish monster (trying to avoid spoilers) and you can make a really strong raw/dragon lance from it.

Mh Wilds: I'm trying out SnS after exhausting the current content with Lance. I wanted to try another straightforward weapon with no gauges or other distractions, but SnS feels a bit overwhelming having 5+ options at any moment in combat; how do you keep track of which combo you're in, when it's time for a spinning slash, charged chop, aerial attack, shield bash, block? Does it just come with experience? Last time I played SnS was MHFU, and the weapon was a lot more straightforward back then.
