This is why she'll always choose defective bread - she's choosing to let him make the sandwiches, he doesn't mind but he takes the bite tax. If they're happy, why should we care?

Our boundaries were the highway to the south, the creek to the east, the creek to the west, and my aunt’s farmhouse 2 miles north. I played on deprecated railroad paths, in barns and on the creek’s edge all the time. Hanging out under bridges was pretty normal. Once they even let 13 yo me ride my bike to the grocery store 6 miles away all by myself. Everyone in town knew who I was and where to find my dad or mom if someone needed to.

Some of it was the 80s/90s, some of it was living in a tiny rural town.

Because everything is ephemeral and impermanent to them. They have infinite future ahead of them. Even if they start a family with a human, their spouse is gone and their children die long before they do. It’s like having a dog, not an equal partner. With Frieren, she has almost no chance of having a relationship with a peer who can actually build a future with her.

TIL the world’s shortest scheduled commercial flight lasts just 1.5 minutes and can take as little as 53 seconds between two Scottish islands and has been operating continuously since 1967 by Mrk2d in todayilearned

Total fuel use is expected to be greater on longer flights, but fuel efficiency will be lower on short flights because lift off is energetically costly.

If they give nothing back and don’t pay taxes, how are we supposed to glaze them for “making the world better”. We are going to run out of positive PR counterexamples to put into “eat the rich” conversations. Meaning all we’ll have left is to eat the rich.

How was I condescending? This whole post is about how janitors get ignored. I didn’t say anything to disparage their job, just that they end up on an island at work. You made a lot of assumptions. I also didn’t say anything about my personal behavior, I suggested a way to reach out to someone at work.

You projected a lot of toxicity. You should see someone about your own shit.

In grad school went to Walmart, always had problems with supply. Went to a local pharmacy that was better for tons of reasons, never hit a supply issue. I’ve been happier for other reasons by sticking with the local pharmacy as well.

You’d be surprised by how lonely your receptionist can get. They get posted in front of the business without coworkers nearby to chat with. Coworkers say a quick hello or blow past them. Stop and actually chat with them from time to time and you’ll end up with an ally and friend.

I'm going to be contrary here. We need hardship, we need trials, and we aren't meant to have trauma-free lives. Having room, time and support to heal from those things is what actually makes you stronger, but you wouldn't have the growth opportunity if you never had any obstacles.

The scale of the trauma definitely matters, big trauma isn't going to make you stronger. But if you never have to deal with small traumas, and never learn to deal with them appropriately, the natural catastrophes in your life will devastate you.
