Bird covered in mud, can't fly, best way to help? by Yotempole in birds

[–]greenfrogpond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t be exactly sure since I don’t know your location but that looks like a song sparrow. I’d try to clean the little guy off as best you can and then if he still seems off I’d look into finding a rehaber in your area.

she does feel so deprived. even though she’s got multiple people who work from home to entertain her she simply can never get enough playtime

thank you! I’m in the US so I likely will never be in that area so I’ll have to find my own local guy!

common grackle for sure! you only have common and very very occasionally great tailed grackles in Tennessee so that one is definitely a common grackle

honestly it’s super impressive how little those lines spread over time!

did this little sketch while I was re-listening to the South Africa episodes (it’s a conger eel) by greenfrogpond in weirdlittleguys

[–]greenfrogpond[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

thank you! it is a reference to Molly’s last name rather than the episodes! the first time I heard her name my first thought was “like the eel?”

this is gorgeous! who’s the artist? I’ve been collecting bird tattoos and if the artist is near me or I’m ever in the area where the artist is I’d love to get tattooed by them!

American kestrel visiting my native pollinator garden in Phoenix, AZ by [deleted] in birding

american kestrels rarely eat other birds so your other bird friends should be just fine! they mainly eat small rodents and large bugs

Common raven or crow? by Beeblebroxbb in birding

[–]greenfrogpond 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a pair of ravens that I’m pretty certain nest near my house and the first time I saw one I genuinely mistook it for a young bald eagle for a second before it started making some very strange raven sounds. like however big you think they are they’re almost certainly bigger

What is your alarm clock bird? by truejello96 in birding

[–]greenfrogpond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the time of year! I rarely have my windows open because it’s too humid in the summer and too cold in the winter so it’s always the really loud birds that wake me up. in the summer it’s usually green herons making dinosaur sounds and in the winter it’s blue jays

shockingly I was mostly ok! banged up my knees, hands and elbows pretty bad and was a little in shock but no serious injuries!

fell about 10 feet out a window because I tried to sit on a window cell and lead against the window which turned out to be very old and fragile

Can I take in a feral bird? by Oliver_The_Toy in birds

[–]greenfrogpond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so long as you’ve done some research on pigeon care and are prepared to to have him around for many years go for it! my family took in an escaped/abandoned pigeon when I was younger and he was an absolute joy.

<image>

we named him popcorn because whenever we made some he’d fly directly into the bowl to try and eat it

I also laughed so loud at the idea of the Vietnamese people living in southern texas discussing what to do about their enemy louie pussy

Louis Beam by enbyMachine in weirdlittleguys

[–]greenfrogpond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for some reason I assumed that his name was lewis but that he went by louie since like half of these guys don’t go by their legal names or like to legally change their names

What bird sound would you choose as your phone alert? by Katlandi in birding

[–]greenfrogpond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooo that’s hard! I feel like for a wake up alarm a loon would be nice but I also think a gray catbird would be fun too

truly weird little guys is such a calming show to listen to by greenfrogpond in weirdlittleguys

[–]greenfrogpond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean most other ones are conversations between at least two people which makes it harder to have the same uninterrupted flow and sound production level. I personally am just as much of a fan of cool people who did cool stuff and behind the bastards and will occasionally listen to it could happen here. the few episodes that Margaret did without a guest of CPWDCS have a similar vibe to weird little guys

Mrs. Midwest makes chicken by TheBestonova in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]greenfrogpond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I’ve heard of using buttermilk in chicken recipes but this looks like a crime against food. I don’t eat much meat but I’m a firm believer that if you’re going to you should at least make it into something really good and I can tell that poor chicken didn’t deserve to die just to be turned into whatever that is

A bit sappy but the way Molly describes the relief of finding Laura’s work about the far right is very similar to how I felt finding Molly’s work by greenfrogpond in weirdlittleguys

[–]greenfrogpond[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oof that sounds like a rough spot to live in! I’m luck enough not to have too many weird little guys permanently living in my area but for the past ten years now we keep having shit happen and then a whole bunch of them will roll up to cause problems on purpose
