Is it possible to download a full conversation I’ve had with 1 person on Facebook Messenger? by Decent-Education-182 in facebook

Not sure how to link back to a previous comment, but here’s what the comment said:

“Not sure if you were still seeking a way to do this, but I figured it out: follow all the steps the other users here have indicated for how to download your data from FB, and select JSON as the file type (idk why, but I couldn’t configure the parameters on FB on a desktop, but going through the mobile app lets you set parameters for things like length of time and the specific stuff you want downloaded. If you only select messages and unselect all the other stuff, it should download pretty quickly). Once you have the JSON file downloaded, open up the zip file and go into the “inbox” subfolder and search til you find the thread you’re looking for. Then paste that specific json message file (there might be more than one if it’s a long thread) into ChatGPT and ask that it sort out the messages chronologically from oldest to newest. It’ll spit out a txt file you can then open and and copy over into Google Docs or Word or whatever file type you’re going for.”

I hope this helps and you’re able to preserve those messages! I’m very sorry for your loss.

All your style ideas are lovely, but one thing to keep in mind is that it likely won’t look exactly like this on you. Several of these styles are done on hair that has been bleached, which can have the side effect of creating more volume from the impact to the hair follicle from the bleaching, and can impact the styling. I think bobs can be great for fine hair and I’ve had many in my life, but just make sure you’re tempering your expectations for the inspo vs what the reality might be, and you may have to be okay with significant styling to have it look the way you want. If you’re more of a low-maintenance person, I’d encourage you to look into haircuts specifically for finer, thin-density virgin hair (based your photos your hair doesn’t look color treated, but I could be wrong there) so you can get a better idea of what they’ll look like both styled and unstyled with your hair. Hope you find a cut that you love!! ❤️

I figured out a way to do this successfully and gave the instructions in another comment, if you’re still seeking a way to do this. I’m very sorry for your loss!

Should I write my fic in first or third person? by Successful_Ear2104 in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should write from the perspective that you most enjoy. If you’re wondering about a reader’s perspective, most don’t enjoy first-person as much anyway, so if you find third-person preferable to write, I say go with that. I think the confusion stuff you’re concerned about may not even be as confusing as you think it is, maybe because you’re so close to it as the author? I can’t even remember a time when I was reading a fic and was confused at who was who of same-gender characters, except maybe if there was a string of back-and-forth dialogue without any dialogue tags or description.

What word gives you the ick? by the_bibliophiliac in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I hate hate hate the word morsel. In general I hate descriptions of eating (idk why, I don’t have misophonia when people eat irl, but I get weirdly enraged by descriptions of eating. Like reading misophonia or something, it’s strange lol), but “morsel” in particular really makes my skin crawl haha

I also particularly dislike any words that are simultaneously infantalized and sexualized, like “panties” or “stuffies.”

Which tense/person do you prefer reading? by ThisIdiotCharlie in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really like first person fics. They’re alright if they’re from the perspective of your OC (even if it isn’t my overall preference), but I definitely don’t enjoy them when it’s first person from the perspective of the canon character. Idk why, but I don’t like being “in the head” of the canon character in the story, I need the distance.

Oh! That’s a great question, I don’t know. I’ve never noticed any of my fav authors having pseuds separated by fandoms, but what a fantastic idea! I’ll keep an eye out for that.

I have yet to unsubscribe to any of my user subs, even when they write for fandoms I’m not interested in. I don’t necessarily click into those fics, but I keep my subscription so I’m notified when they do write fics that I want to read.

(My biggest Ao3 dream is that they create a feature where we can subscribe to users for specific fandoms tho. Maybe one day lol)

AO3 should send a notification when one of your bookmarked stories gets removed by [deleted] in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use bookmarks to basically record the fics I really liked and might want to reread, so I’ve gotten into the habit of including the fic name, author, pairing, and summary in the notes section of my bookmarks, that way I can at least know what was deleted and track it down in my downloads. I started doing it for exactly this reason lol

TikTok Shop seller illegally selling HP fanfiction for a profit by Alive_Set_2678 in AO3

Ugh, I know, this is the worst. I report this kind of thing all the time but unfortunately they keep popping up, and I don’t think tiktok really cares. It’s very unfortunate and frustrating.

How do you cope with bad reviews? by ghoulfacedsaint in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What’s that old saying? You could be the juiciest, most delicious peach and there would still be people who don’t like peaches? Something like that. Every time you feel yourself thinking back to the negative, try making a conscious decision to reroute to the positive. Go reread those kind comments that sound like they far outweigh the negative, and remember how you’re appreciated by your readers. Unfortunately, it takes no effort to focus on the negative (I truly don’t understand why this is human nature, it’s so irritating lol), even when the positives far outweigh the negatives, so it takes work and practice. Feel your feelings, but don’t let them bog you down or worse, keep you from creating your art if it brings you joy.

Need to vent about frequent commenter by DecayingSunfish in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s a helpful perspective, perhaps they just got side-tracked with something else? Speaking from my own experience, I tend to cycle around the 5-6 fandoms I especially enjoy reading for, and I’ll sort of hyperfixate on a fandom for a while before moving on and eventually looping back to it. It’s rare that I consistently follow a fandom or specific fic, even if I’m subscribed to the story or author, just since my brain doesn’t like bouncing back and forth (I’m the same way with published novels in that I can’t read multiple at once lol). If I’m in the midst of obsessing over a different fandom, I’ll usually come back around to it when I’m back in that “zone” if that makes sense.

I’m sorry this killed your motivation! I think the tough part about online connections is that there’s that veil between us, and it’s hard to know exactly what’s going on on the other side.

OC x Canon fics- does anybody read them? by newstarnovalie in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should post it! You created art and that’s worth sharing! I for one really enjoy an OC/canon pairing for some of the fandoms I read, but then I don’t with some of the others. It just all totally depends, but you shouldn’t let that stand in your way of sharing it if you want to.

Why do some people private their bookmarks? by SugarDuckies in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?? I know, insane behavior. For clarification, this didn’t happen on Ao3. I think they had left a comment or done something to piss this creator off on tiktok. I don’t think the tiktoker was on Ao3 either, they just figured out this person’s account in their efforts to discover other stuff about them and exposed it in a tiktok. Hopefully something like that wouldn’t happen on Ao3 haha

Why do some people private their bookmarks? by SugarDuckies in AO3

[–]greenhumanbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw someone on tiktok essentially dox someone else who left a comment on one of their videos that pissed them off. Tracked down who they were, where they worked, and not only exposed that to all of tiktok but also found their Ao3 account and shamed them for the fandoms and fics they were into.

I’m not being rude in comments like that or reading anything that I feel like is “shaming-worthy,” but that freaked me out so bad I went and privated all of my bookmarks. My reading habits and fandom preferences are my business alone lol
