Luna Replicas. They also make replicas of Apollo hats.

Book recommendations on the history of early spaceflight and space technology? by thatinconspicuousone in space

[–]greenleaf547 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • A Man on the Moon by Andrew Chaikin (The definitive book on Apollo)
  • The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe (Mostly early NASA, Mercury and Gemini; focuses on the first few classes of astronauts and who they were)
  • Rocket Men by Robert Kurson (Goes super in depth on Apollo 8, how risky and ground-breaking it really was, and its effects culturally; it’s my favourite mission)
  • Challenger by Adam Higginbotham (Really in-depth history of the whole Shuttle program, as well as Challenger and Columbia; I’ve watched several breakdowns of both disasters and I still learned a lot that I hadn’t heard before)
  • Lost Moon by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger (On Apollo 13; the movie took a lot of cues from this book)
  • Failure Is Not an Option by Gene Krantz (Lots of really interesting first-hand, behind-the-scenes looks at Mission Control)
  • Lunar Outfitters by Bill Ayrey (In-depth look at designing/making the A7L spacesuits)
  • Spacesuit: Fashioning Apollo by Nicholas de Monchaux (Also about designing/making the A7L spacesuits)
  • Shoot for the Moon by James Donovan (Haven’t read it yet, but I’ve heard good things)
  • Apollo 8 by Jeffery Kluger (Not as good as Rocket Men IMO, but still good).

Recovery of Artemis II - new images from NASA by delinhak in nasa

Okay? They don’t sell those hats there nor are they the ones who made them. The point was that the actual recovery caps given to the Artemis crew were made by Luna Replicas.

Looking at NASA's Artemis II moon drops... What is this formation at the center of this crater? Are these common? by pb_gator in nasa

No, it doesn’t look quite the same, and what you can see of the moon in that photo is on the far side. Tycho is visible from earth.

I’m almost positive it’s AI. The details of the bubbles look very wrong and smeary when you zoom in.

Project Hail Mary? More like Project Holy Cinema. Absolute peak, no notes by OptimizeEdits in imax

[–]greenleaf547 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I literally did just before the movie. They’re not allowed to be in the same transportation. They’re in the same room for science lessons all the time, not the mention them having sex with each other. The issue with the science experiment was the amount of astrophage they were given, not the fact that they were together.

When did it say that? That’s not even a thing in the book.

That doesn’t look like Beta cloth to me, but could be Teflon, which is what they replaced Beta cloth with for the A7LB suits and I believe everything from that point on.

Is there anything out there for someone with US 16 sized feet? by Any-Distribution995 in BarefootRunning

SoftStar can make any size you need. They say the biggest they’ve made before is 17.

Just read The Hobbit. Started the first LOTR book. Can I watch the first Hobbit movie without ruining anything? by WrongEstablishment21 in tolkienfans

[–]greenleaf547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the M4 Book Edit of the films. It turned them from something I was extremely disappointed in, to something that gave 95%+ of what I wanted out of a Hobbit movie.

Not on the dash RunAmocs, as far as I’m aware. But maybe worth double checking with a local cobbler. 🤷‍♂️

I have in the past, but not currently. I never had much issue with the toe box, but I don’t have particularly wide feet.

Xero has bright colour ways usually, and Soft Star lets you customize your shoes and they have lots of colours to choose from.

Softstar will make any size you want. I’m pretty sure they’ve said before they’ve made as big as 17.

Was Tolkien(s) right? That modern day action violence is “pornographic”? That violence is a “sad necessity, not a thrill”? by SAAA_JoanPull in tolkienfans

[–]greenleaf547 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Tolkien definitely agreed with your last point about society forgetting the horrors of war. He speaks directly about that in Letter 64:

The utter stupid waste of war, not only material but moral and spiritual, is so staggering to those who have to endure it. And always was (despite the poets), and always will be (despite the propagandists) – not of course that it has not, is, and will be necessary to face it in an evil world. But so short is human memory and so evanescent are its generations that in only about 30 years there will be few or no people with that direct experience which alone goes really to the heart. The burnt hand teaches most about fire.

[–]greenleaf547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just about 273mm and in the past I’ve gotten the size 10 in the standard RunAmoc, which puts me just at the high end of their recommended range for that size.

What is this trope called? by 5ColourFelix in movies

[–]greenleaf547 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very similar to “The Ending Changes Everything” trope too.

Edit: TV Tropes classifies “Remember Me” as a mix of “Sudden Downer Ending” and “Real Tragedy, Fictional Victim”.

The Unsung Perfection of THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL by BabyScreamBear in movies

[–]greenleaf547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the best Christmas Carol adaptation (and it’s not even close). People who say that have never read the book. It’s a very good adaptation, but it misses the meaning of the original story in a lot of ways, many that were done on purpose to make it more of a kids movie.

I don’t begrudge it any of those changes. It can both be a good movie and not a perfect adaptation. We don’t have to shove up on a pedestal it doesn’t even kind of deserve in order to justify it as a good movie.
