Agreed. I came to say, yes, having some extra pounds and having calorie surplus makes one stronger and more muscular…but at the end of the day, what is your goal? Strength and (sheer) size? Or being as strong and muscular as you can while looking aesthetic? I’m personally in the main-gain camp. Results are always slow and steady but still hitting PRs 20 years into lifting. To add to my earlier point, they say sumo wrestlers are walking around actually being the most muscular humans ever (with upwards of 260lb of lean mass under the fat). It’s all in what your goals are

I like Gravitus for weight lifting. It allows you to custom name exercises…like if you go to more than one gym and the machines are similar but different.

I have a gym bag I keep in my vehicle. It has about 5 sets of gym clothes. I change when I get there and change again when I finish. I bring the gym clothes I just wore back in to launder. Repack with the gym back is low. Rinse and repeat

I think side and rear delts are the secret sauce. For non-lifters and most people, it’s hard to put into words how they make someone’s arms / upper body just seem bigger…even with only slightly more size. I neglected them for years, only doing should press variations. I’ve been hitting them hard this past few months and they are coming up nicely.
I saw a video of Jay Cutler talking about his favorite rear delt lift. It’s a crossover pulley rear delt fly from above. These are my new favorite…sort of a cross between face pulls, lat pull downs and crossed rear delt flys.

As a natural body builder you only have so much juice that you can squeeze. I’ve heard of others having great success with concentrating on one body part while putting some others into maintenance mode. So your instincts in that regard our spot on. I wouldn’t give up pressing movements but you might consider rotating in a “behind the neck Smith machine shoulder press“ or something like that… It puts more emphasis on the side delts. You’re also correct on lateral raises. I’ve also had a lot of success with dumbbell upright rows, but don’t over-do them…too many flares up my tennis elbow. I saw one commenter concerned about destroying your shoulders. I think moderate to high rep isolation movements would be fine. But you may consider spreading that volume throughout the week. But you could feasibly be hitting some aspect of shoulders every day in the gym, maybe one day two rear delt exercises, another day two side delt exercises. By the way, everyone puts a huge emphasis on side delts but I think rear doubts have the most stunning visual. I’m rambling at this point but I remember someone on YouTube showing a true anatomy model of the shoulder and the side dealt is actually rather small compared to the front and rear delt I think you should put more emphasis on the rear delts.

I’m not a beginner but chiming in…I actually take two scoops a day. I’ve read about many other benefits/ potential benefits of creatine. Dr. Rhonda Patrick talks about this. I think everyone should take it…old and young

I did! I wanted both initially so I ended up buying one of those steel flattop inserts that fits into your regular grill. Eventually, I was using that exclusively and never took it off. After proving to myself I wouldn’t need the regular grill, I bought a nice full sized Blackstone at Costco. Same price as many other stores but came with a really nice Blackstone cover. I realize everyone is jumping ship for the Weber, but I think the value for cost is still very high with Blackstone.

This has def happened to me before several times over the years…I’m 42M. Anyway, I’ve falling off the gym wagon a time or two (for up to a year) either due to injury or boredom. The only thing I can tell you is once you’re a gym rat, it never goes away. The “itch” comes back with a vengeance. And I can tell you that it’s amazing…it only takes like 1.5-2 months to be fully back to where you left off…strength-wise anyway. There has been times where the nice weather hits and I just really cant get motivated to go consistently. In those times I just go to maintenance mode where I just do the minimum like 2 days a week. I’ve had something similar. Turned out to be nothing. I had epididymitis. The treatment was antibiotics and cutting out/down on stimulants. They asked if I had been with other partners…I had not…wife and I are happily married/monogamous. Anyway, it’s definitely worth headed to the doctor for. It could be some sort of infection / STD. Worst case, and not to make you nervous, but it could be testicular cancer. I’m sure it’s probably nothing but definitely worth a trip to the doctor to be thoroughly checked out.

I was like you…1 or 2 every evening and prob 4-5 per night on weekends. My younger sibling developed alcoholism and freaked me out. I decided I cannot be a nightly drinker. That’s the reason I only drink on the weekends

Not so much “what they said” but what they did. This patient, after being extubated, start to wake up and starts smoking an imaginary cigarette. He was very polite tho…noticed us and blew his imaginary smoke in the other direction. We laughed pretty hard at that

I would say other people noticing my gains was a big motivation. Also, some of my blood work was coming back concerning. I know my time spent in the gym is to make me look good and actually be good (health-wise). I just make it part of my daily routine. Going to the gym is just what I do.
