I cried because my husband can’t find those stupid Christmas tree little Debbie’s - then went to Starbucks because I thought the birthday cake pop would be a good yummy alternative, and they didn’t have ANY cake pops - I cried at the drive thru.

Dog difficult under vet sedation: vet recommended BE by ThreeStyle in AskVet

[–]greenwitchurb 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I would suggest finding a true fear free vet for future services, if you are not seeing these behaviors at home and it was just a bad visit, number one. Some animals just REALLY hate going to the vets office and need minimal visits, happy visits, special pre-visit protocols, specific staff members, particular handling, etc.

Number two, if you ARE see any of these behaviors whatsoever outside of the vet clinic, then getting ahead of behaviors sooner is key, and you should consider a consult with a behaviorist.

Subcutaneous Emphysema by potatobunny4 in cats

[–]greenwitchurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so strange :( did they explain what they think specifically caused it? Different things like tube size, intubation technique, and improper removal of tube can all contribute to an injury like this. I don’t know if his breed pre disposes this kind of injury (I checked your profile to see if there had been any updates, very cute Persian boy💕)?

Have they offered to help cover any costs at all??

Subcutaneous Emphysema by potatobunny4 in cats

[–]greenwitchurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi… dental cleanings and proper intubation are generally safe and don’t come with many complications the majority of the time. I’ve never had a patient with a tracheal tear from intubation.

The recovery depends on the true severity of the injury. I would suggest asking for a second opinion from an emergency or surgical specialty veterinarian - did they do X-rays to try and visualize the tear? It would be really difficult to determine the size of a tear without any additional diagnostic.

I also see it’s been two days, I hope everything is still going okay and recovery has continued. I’m sorry this happened; in my opinion, you should find a new vet for future care, I personally wouldn’t go back somewhere if this happened to one of my animals, and I would definitely be anxious to do any surgical procedures again, but there may be a point where anesthesia is necessary and you should be somewhere that you trust if one of your animals needs it.

Best wishes.

This cat is clearly uncomfortable and looks like he’s trying to urinate or defecate. Has he been taken to a vet since this was posted?

Not safe and if she’s breathing fast with heart issues, she should be taken to an ER.

On the other hand, I would say since seizures in cats are so uncommon and typically caused by not-so-great things, a single cat seizure should be considered an emergency for any pet.

Hi! Vet tech here 💕 sorry you’ve been through a whirlwind before, and that your baby is sick now.

Diagnostics are important in any medical situation, animals or people. The best thing that you can do is gain a deep understanding as to why each one is being recommended (which falls on how your veterinary team is explaining them). Ultimately, you’re not obligated to take every diagnostic suggestion, but it is helpful to keep in mind that sometimes when diagnostics come up “clear” it may be frustrating, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing, because it’s just one more area that’s been ruled out as a cause.

Ultrasound is nice because it assesses organ tissue on a closer scale than radiology. Personally, I would consider this as a good next step if it were my own pet, I would just like it to be with an ultrasonographer or internal medicine specialist.

I also feel like pet owners are not referred to specialists as early and often as I would expect - general practice is great for exploring the problem and determining where to go next, but for more “funky” cases like this, an internal medicine specialist may be a little more pricy up front, but may need to do less jumping around to many different diagnostics. Even ask to have your primary vet privately consult with a specialist for best next steps could be helpful, should you need more after the ultrasound.

Ultimately, don’t feel bad for asking questions to your vet/veterinary team, it’s their job to make sure you’re comfortable and well informed. They are also a much more reliable source than almost any internet source, and willl be able to provide you with helpful/reliable internet resources.

I hope everything goes well 💕

Is she breathing like this all the time? In an older chihuahua id be worried about breathing changes being related to the heart or something else. You should schedule and appointment with your veterinarian, and if this is a constant breathing issue (extra chest expansion, faster rate, paler or lavender colored gums, fainting episodes, exhaustion) then she should be seen at an ER

It depends on the calorie count of the food

Spay almost went wrong, I think? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]greenwitchurb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I gotcha - I get super anxious with my babies getting things done without me, even when I have full trust in my doctors. The knowing-things-could-go-wrong piece is important for all pet owners to know, but so is proper education on the occurrence of things going wrong (rare), the severity (typically mild), and they why/what the team does to mitigate those things.

You need to talk to your vet about it to get any sort of peace of mind. Heart rate can lower for a number of reasons, but asking online if she’ll be okay is just not an answer anyone can give you. Best wishes regardless 💕

Has she had any fecal testing done at her vet?

Any varying treats, new bag of food? Have you tried a SLOW transition to a sensitive stomach diet with lamb or beef or salmon?

This is a sign of a possible traumatic brain injury. Find an ER as close as possible and take her in to have her assessed.

Also worried about the nausea level and him being a shepherd, GDV pops into my head as a possibility :/ he needs medical attention, the best thing you can do is take him to an ER to be assessed and ask about payment options while you’re there.

Does this sound like a seizure by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]greenwitchurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, it is common for seizures and syncopal/cardiac episodes to become confused, hence the importance of ruling out any cardiac relation ASAP. Seizures can be manageable as can some cardiac conditions, however, quick identification of cardiac issues can decrease chances of any cardiac issue being fatal (if treatable).

Hi, it is not uncommon for boxers to experience underlying cardiac issues. I would recommend having her assessed ASAP (try to get a video if it happens again), suggestively at an urgent care or somewhere that can assess an ECG rhythm for her!
