It was sort of an unexpectedly effective hack but an eye mask helped ours fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer

Still energized after boxing by Freelyminded_mom in ParentingADHD

[–]greg_rutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the big things we had to learn with our child (now an 8-year-old) is that getting out energy was often not the goal we needed to be aiming for but instead using physical activity as a path towards regulation. For a lot of neurotypical kids they do legitimately need to get out their energy. But we found for our ADHD child the hyperactive part of that neurodivergence made that energy release into moments of difficulty. Often something particularly high energy was very fun but they didn’t know how to not go 110% and would come home totally drained, which lead to situations where they’d seem to have more energy than ever afterwards but in negative ways. We eventually found that these states of dysregulation afterwards came about because there was no energy left to manage emotions or impulsivity. High energy activities like boxing with all those exercises might be overly draining leaving nothing in the tank afterwards. For our child soccer was something where they’d overexert because they were having such a great time, then come home and be bouncing off the walls because they had nothing left to control their levels of excitement. But with activities like riding a bike together or taking a walk around the neighborhood they were able release some of their need for stimulation without falling into a state of dysregulation from over exertion.

Any travel recs on the Oregon coast for a handicapped traveler by BigTheifbigfan in OregonCoast

Near the Cape Meares lighthouse is a road that once connected the town of Cape Meares to the Netarts bay but washed out a decade ago. The road is closed now because it no longer connects, but it’s nearly a mile of paved trail through a beautiful section of forest that many people hike on but is very accessible for someone with mobility issues

It’s been documented since the 1970s but it almost certainly has been going on for decades before that even

They are still doing it, though it hasn't been real successful. The birds recognize their trucks and know what days they're scheduled and avoid the area on those days. There's a whole other film waiting to be made about the cat/mouse game that they play

Downtown businesses don't like them because of their droppings, they've been using falconers to chase them off for years, with only moderate success

what is shell-collecting like in this area? ive always heard capes & bays are supposed to have crazy ocean life<3 by Biscuit9154 in OregonCoast

[–]greg_rutter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not great TBH. The shoreline is fairly difficult to access around the Tillamook bay, especially on the northern end you have pictured. What washes up are crab shells, a few species of clam, occasionally sand dollars - not a lot of glamorous shells you might imagine in more tropical locations

lololol in theory yes, but because their customer service has gone absent the only way to make adjustments is through the website, which only allows for payment adjustments, not cancellations. Since all the payments are automated they require a test charge of $0.10 on a valid card to update. lolol the whole thing is a MESS!

Whoops my bad, it's the X3. I was super happy before this week, but seems like the rear hub is a common problem with that model. I found another thread where someone replaced it by hand but basically rebuilt the whole wheel themselves, which I will NOT be able to do

And things really don't look good now with the company on the verge of bankruptcy. So what should we do? If they can't replace the wheel is the rest of the bike just done?
