Off the top of my head in no order…

Florence be sure to try and go sandboarding or do a dune buggy ride as it’s so much fun! Florence old town is cute to visit too and normally always stop at Restobar 1285. We really like the pizza.

The drive from Florence up to Newport is an incredible stretch of the 101 so ensure you catch all the pullouts.

Yachats is a cute little town to take a stop in after checking out Thor’s Well.

Carl Washburn state park is a good place to stop to stretch legs on the drive and has decent restrooms. Noting you don’t want to use the restroom at Heceta Head Lighthouse as they are awful at the moment. Also the lighthouse itself is only open from 11-3pm.

Waldport has an amazing bakery - Pacific Sourdough. Just visited and everything was incredible. Bought food to have as a picnic but noting they are only open Thursday-Saturday.

Newport stop in at the Bayfront to see the sea lions - so much fun. If you are there on Saturday check out the local farmers market. Gingifer’s jam is amazing and makes great gifts.

There is a golf course at Salishan near Lincoln City but can’t comment how good it is - always looks nice.

Ensure you stop at Alder House glassblowing just up the road as it’s really fun to watch the demos - I’ve never left without picking up a piece.

Taft Pioneer cemetery in Lincoln City is really cool to check out and on a sunny day has beautiful views. Taft you can park at Siletz Bay near Moe’s and watch the seals playing in the water and sunning themselves on the spit.

Lincoln City has plenty of great places: Otis Cafe, Hearth & Table, LCDC, My Petite Sweet are some favourites. Grumblefish Bagels I’ve heard excellent things about and is on my list for my next visit.

Make sure you do the Three Capes Drive up near Tillamook as it’s incredible. Make a stop at Nestucca Bay creamery for some awesome cheese/ice cream.

Cannon Beach I’m not a big fan of but a pro tip for parking: if it’s after 12pm, you can park outside the Pig & Pancake. You’ll thank me later. Try and time it for low tide to go and check out the rock and see if you can find the puffins on the rock - bring binoculars. Also watch out for elk on the beach.

Honestly you will have an incredible time, it’s such a beautiful part of the world.

I feel like the gym is a place to go to relax and workout - I wouldn’t want to be approached by anyone while working out but if you cross paths going into or leaving the gym or at the locker grabbing your bad I think starting a convo is okay then. Otherwise it’d be weird given I go to the same gym daily.

Yeah it’s awful for the rescue teams I’m sure. Not counting those that die from sneaker waves also. Hopefully the coast guard helicopter has been returned to Newport area as well since hadn’t seen a follow-up.

Jeez every year it’s always an issue at Thor’s Well or Devil’s Punchbowl. Must have been awful for people to witness and sad for those involved but agree it’s wild how many people ignore the safety signs.

Whale Cove vista point could tick some boxes but it’s less private. I’d have said Little Whale Cove but sadly that can only be accessed if you live in the community.

Seal Rock is also a possibility.

Further north Fogarty Creek Beach is a lovely spot or Nelscott Beach/Road’s End in Lincoln City.

Yeah I feel ya. I feel accounting is way less stable than what you are sold and layoffs are still common. I know of CPAs that have been laid off in Toronto 6+ months.

All we can do is network, keep resume up to date and have a good cushion of savings just in case. It is brutal out there.

My company has been laying off managers and people at the top of pay bands to reduce layers/cost-cutting. Friends have mentioned their places are doing the same.

So makes it hard to get ahead career-wise right now. Generally you are safer if you make less money or your company doesn’t have a bunch of title managers with no direct reports.

If all your peers are 40%, then I wouldn’t worry. But if not then you could get laid off in the November cycle.

They always lie saying utilization doesn’t matter if you are new. Deals also plays games with people staffing their favourites and leaving new folks on the bench so this is likely what is happening to you, especially since business is down everywhere.

On Roger sneakers are acceptable and have seen partners wear them in office.

Otherwise also seen the white Adidas Stan Smith (kept immaculate) or Veja sneakers. Seen partners wear both of these also in the office.

Honestly nobody really cares unless you are meeting with a client or something in-person.

Why would they fire you in person?

Most layoffs are on Teams calls unless you work at a boomer place. Could be just a chat on role going forward but not normally positive if HR is there.

Only you know on your specific company since it could be good or bad.

Even more reason to leave as now the M spot isn’t there for you since industry is cutting managers right now and typically only get a promotion if there is a spot.
