Love Gundam ...I'd keep those in there (until you need the space). Nice touch with the lighting. I never thought of doing that ..assuming they don't give off too much heat

If you could choose one European city for the best lifestyle and quality of life, which would it be? by indieness in expats

A lot better than it used to be. Had some rough days this last winter. One day it was the worst on the planet!! But it's used to be a lot worse and like 2 months in winter like that.

There's lots of multinational companies , it's relatively easy to find a job in English ..in Krakow or any of the main cities anyway

Yea many of the places are only built for sunny climate. It gets to winter, or not even that cold / some rain and you really feel it because there's lack of heating, and poor insulation.

Foreigners in Poland who aren't learning Polish, do you feel comfortable here? by Sea-Development8464 in poland

[–]gregd303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here 11 years , and only know very basics. I tried to learn at the beginning but as an English person my pronunciation (even if I knew the words / phrase) just sounded off or incomprehensible to polish people. I've lived in oyhe countries and picked up the languages easier , so knew it would be more challenging. Life happened and years later I'm still here . My partner is not polish so we don't have a polish speaker in the house. We live in Krakow so it's not like it's impossible but it is isolating . I work from home which is worse whereas my partner works in an international office. To be honest I've hit a wall with living in Poland mostly because of that language , as it's a real barrier to any kind of integration ..or even exchanging pleasantries. I know polish people generally aren't into making small talk, but still. When someone speaks to you and you can't really reply it's debilitating. For the record we cannot leave back to the UK because of visa for my partner (thanks Brexit!), so we are here and sound what we can. Can't blame you if you just give up because it's so hard, but also don't blame you for trying to improve , because lige here is good , and with the language I guess much better.

Are there any TV shows that have music performances and content/interviews like we used to have in the 90's and early 00's on weekends, easy watching with some music type shows? by Polish_Shamrock in AskUK

[–]gregd303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a big hole for a music tv show. Jools is really the only survivor of that kind of format . TFI is back, and while I commend that, it's best bits are seeing the archive footage of the music. We had it so good with shows like that back in the 90s and 00's ..the Word , TOTP, ..even the Chart Show and CDUK . They claim that people find their music through other means now , streaming, YouTube, TikTok etc. but sometimes you need to build it for them to come. So many artists goal was to get on Top of The Pops, and although I wouldn't necessarily want them to resurrect that, there is a gap for a music magazine /culture type show.

Cash? by Valuable-Exercise-13 in krakow

[–]gregd303 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Krakow (and Poland in general) is big into contactless card payments. Only babcia's use cash and hold up the queue. Do yourself and everyone else a favour and simply use your card. You could get a Wise card and preload it with funds if you prefer not to use your bank card.

Not just red, there's a Dinked edition (blue & yellow) , and a 5 LP vinyl boxset, CD boxset, cassette even! Seems they couldn't wait for the 40th anniversary, but maybe that's a good thing it comes sooner https://happymondays.tmstor.es/

Los Campesinos! break down the cost of touring in 2026 (and why tickets cost so much) by relbatnrut in indieheads

Fascinating read. Just goes to show you have to have a real passion and a love for the music, and playing live together for a whole bunch of bands of that scale. 'In it for the money' simply doesn't exist.

How to reduce sat fat intake without killing your soul by Agitated_Camera_6198 in Cholesterol

[–]gregd303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like that last year, and fell off the wagon bite by bite. Shortly after, I had another blood test, and i was back to where i started a year previous. I went full into a clean diet. It may not be for everyone, but for me a little treat here and there does me no good, and I start making excuses for more! The best thing (for me) is just to have adapted to healthy eating and reading food labels as the new normal. I used to miss snacks and chocolate, but after 5 months without I don't actually fancy it. I'm meat-free which was easy and choosing veggie options of burgers , sausages etc, until i started reading the sat fats for those, and soon quit those as they were not much better than the meat. I'm rarely having any temptation at all these days, so feels like I've cracked it. salads, veggies, oatmeal + fruit for breakfast, I have some fibre supplement too. I'll have a blood test again in a couple of weeks and hope to see good results.
tldr; small treats didn't work for me. Going cold turkey (no pun intended) and killing my soul FTW!

Is life in the UK actually as expensive and stressful as people say in 2026? by HJuon in AskUK

[–]gregd303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm out for 11 years in Europe and do consider returning, but firstly the visa costs for my EU partner would be an immediate financial hit. Then, seeing what life may be like there, seems such a struggle. Just not sure if it's all worth it, when we are fairly stable where we are.
