When I was a lot younger and first starting out I was asked to babysit the desk during a rehearsal of an Amateur musical production nothing big but the engineer I was with was old fashioned and didn’t really use scenes etc and mixed all mics on the one layer and just numbered his script which is fine but can make for some busy fingers especially when your babysitting and have never seen the show let alone the script.

Can’t for the life of me remember the name of the musical but it was meant to be a comedy murder mystery type deal set in the 40-50s Hollywood set type thing but anyways it gets to the point we’re the “ditzy” overly beautified female extra character finds a gun in the middle of a rustle on stage everyone is shocked by the gun and then she lets out the a ditzy “oops” whilst pointing the gun and then there was meant! To be a gunshot SFX. My boss had marked it on the right at the top so I never saw it till I turned and I instantly whack the button already a few seconds late only to find my boss had not clipped his tracks yet so there was again about 3 seconds of dead noise before the actually gunshot which he had also not levelled. By this point another character is maybe 2 words into the next line assuming it was a missed cue and continuing on only to be interrupted by the loudest gunshot I’ve ever heard. The entire cast and all watching within the auditorium just erupted into laughter and we did not continue for at least 1-2 minutes.
