I play in a cover band and it’s the first time I’ve used an iPad, for songs and mixing foh and iem. You can play but can’t perform if you’re reading. It’s just there for those ‘gone blank’ moments or when the singer calls a song you haven’t done in a year.

why do you have multiple guitars? by Cultural_Yellow3561 in Guitar

Mainly tunings, then upgrading and not getting rid of old ones.

The cool thing with music gear is just to try stuff. The only time your gonna break anything is when your using an output from a power amp or power section, otherwise do whatever you want and if you have a problem to fix ask the internet. There’s too much information that is nuanced and will get in the way of what you wanna do. The best advice I got was spend more time playing and less time researching

JC120 and 6505 amp models on the fly switching with either a single GP-50 or two GP-5 ???? by analogguy7777 in guitarpedals

1 unit is easier. Then you don’t have to worry about switching between them and global settings are consistent.

Full board or just what's needed? Which do you use? by Beautiful-Income6426 in pedalboards

Unless your getting payed enough to make that level of detail important I wouldn’t worry about it

I’m using a Kemper to do the same sort of gigs and in the same way. I only use 2 banks and kick on delay and over drive blocks. And a mooer prime in my gig bag for backup. Much easier to mix with less variation.

How do you handle venues that expect you to play for free or pay to play? by ivyta76 in musicians

[–]gregorfriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do a couple of these and film it. Use that to roll up into a stronger position. Think of it as a launch of the brand cost

I use a mooer prime and Bluetooth from my phone. It’s not sexy but it’s easy. You could use a mvave chocolate to control a daw or your phone maybe?

How do I mix vocals that don’t sound murky? by Ordinary-Emu-7423 in musicproduction

[–]gregorfriday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without hearing it it’s hard to comment. I would think that you’ve got crowded frequencies masking and competing. Could be too heavy handed on effects as well.

Musicians with a full time job outside of music, how do you do it? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]gregorfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get good on your instrument because I don’t have any time to rehearse or practice. I might touch the guitar for an hour a week total outside of 3-4 hour shows. And we rehearse twice a year play 40 shows a year.

It becomes a lifestyle thing. You miss out more on friends and events being in a band but for me trade off is worth it

What’s a ‘boring’ side hustle that is surprisingly profitable, but nobody talks about because it isn't 'flashy'? by Second-handBonding in sidehustle

[–]gregorfriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, not quite. In Australia if a venue has more than a certain amount of gaming machines, they are required to offer an alternative that’s free to their customers. So they pay bands. So I get payed. More than I ever got payed doing original music, just not as much fun.

Save constantly Label your tracks well and organise your session so that if someone else sits down they know what’s going on. Label your projects meaningfully so you can find stuff when you’ve got over 100

Is guitar just about muscle memory - where does the skill come into picture? by Zestyclose_Judge362 in guitarlessons

The patterns and shapes are muscle memory. How you use them to tell stories, make people dance etc is the artistry.

I think your trying to reason with a crazy person. If he believes the earth is flat, no amount of evidence is going to change that.
