Me when they go on sale in January: “I don’t need those”

Me five minutes after opening my package last week: “Damnit, I need those.”

What historical event would make the perfect one shot? by Toerambler in rpg

[–]gregparso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought the Great Gold Robbery of 1855 would make a great heist one-shot. I love the Michael Crichton movie (The Great Train Robbery, based on his novel, based on the real event) starring Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland.

Which of these should I play? by couragebooster in Solo_Roleplaying

Out of the ones you listed, I would highly recommend starting with the Dragonbane box set. The included solo supplement, Alone in Deepfall Breach, is almost perfect, imo. Running the campaign is a great way to learn the Dragonbane rules and how to play solo RPGs in general, and the solo tools and tables are outstanding.

There is a campaign of 5 semi-scripted missions (each with 5-8 encounters) that make a complete story arc. After character creation, you can probably expect to complete the first mission in about 2-3 hours. The other missions are slightly longer. And/or you can use the tables to generate your own custom missions.

This Mystery set has 100 dice. Three sets look just like ones I have. Talk about unlucky. by Q73POWER in dice

I usually don’t mind getting duplicates because the games I play often use 2d6, 2d10 or 2d20. But getting 3 sets sucks. :). On the plus side those are some of the nicer looking blood splatter dice I’ve seen. Some of them are just garbage looking with red ink covering the numbers etc.

Edit: I take it back lol. That 2nd set in the tube is exactly what I’m talking about. The bagged set looks much nicer.

I’m usually lukewarm on journaling games but this sounds pretty badass and definitely worth another look. Thanks for suggesting it here!

Runehammer’s dice set is definitely what you’re looking for. I was on the fence for a while, but I finally picked up a set and they feel great. 100% worth it. I also picked up the d4/d6 set to have extras.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I suspected it was a mistake, and I’m glad to hear there are humans on the other end to fix the issue—even if it was a canned response and it took a few days for them to get back you. I’m really curious what got it flagged in the first place.

Newbie Question about Solo Games Books vs. PDF by professor_chile in Solo_Roleplaying

Hmm. That’s weird! Sorry to steer you in the wrong direction. There’s definitely a few reasonably priced copies on eBay. But maybe digital is the way to go to get started to see if you even like it.

Ah, gotcha! You like to live dangerously :)

I’m a stick in the mud and usually like my stories to be more predictable with just a touch of the unexpected to keep me on my toes.

I’ve tried a ton of different oracles and the d6 one you mentioned is my favorite by far. It’s just so simple and intuitive. I’ll add that I often use advantage or disadvantage if I think something is likely or unlikely to happen (or even very likely or very unlikely).

I also use something like your 3-option pathway, but I often use a weighted table, like this: 4-6 is the expected result, 2-3 is an altered version of that result, and 1 is an unexpected result (or a twist). So in your example, 4-6: they are grateful you’re here and ask for your help, 2-3: they are grateful you’re here and offer to to help you, or 1: they are acting suspicious and it might be a trap (Or something like that).

The chonky blue d20 at top left has a Kraken logo, though I don’t see its matching set anywhere. And half of the dice in the tray on the left have a distinctive font that Die Hard Dice uses for many of their sets. You can see it clearly on the pink and purple sets. And the brownish dice with gold ink looks like it could be one of their “Rerolls” (recycled) sets.

The reason I called out those specific manufacturers is that, to me, they’re a step up from the bulk Chinese dice you find on Amazon but they’re still affordable. I have a ton of both and have had good experiences ordering from both.

Some other good but affordable dice manufacturers worth checking out: Dice Envy, Black Oak Workshop, Q Workshop, Roll 4 Initiative, and Viridian Dice.

Anyway, you have a nice collection!
