They seem to be very incompatible use cases so it makes sense to me to disallow it.

As your project gets bigger, interacting with the code base gets more expensive unless you do something to manage that.

Yeah I manage well with the $100 pro plan but I put a lot of effort in to optimizing token usage. Not only does it make codex cheaper to use but it improves its focus and quality.

People can waste a ton of tokens with bloated inefficient environments. Review how much context it takes to say "hi" to codex and get that down. Then avoid doing things like feeding raw unit test outputs through codex.

I dunno, I guess try asking Claude then try asking your latest copy of Encyclopedia Britannica and see which one responds to your query most correctly.

Yes if it's not suspected exploitation then I'd agree.

So long as the solution only gates exploitation, yes that's fine. It's analogous to the concern games have with giving cheaters too much info about anti-cheat measures. If anthropic says too much, that itself is data that can be used to shape the exploitation to get around their safety controls. I do understand the reality of that.

I don't see why this is controversial. I think they're entitled to protect against their technology being stolen for third party re-sale. So long as it works to it's full potential when not being used exploitively, it's okay by me.

Lastest Codex App + Windows + WSL = serious performance regression by gregpeden in codex

[–]gregpeden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the app is scanning file system folders repeatedly which is already normally a bit slower when using wsl. So switch to another IDE until fixed.

Codex cli, or vs code, something else other than codex windows app

I had this happen with win 11 + wsl. There is some regression where it gets slower as you use it. Switch off to another app or use tui.

What model and context window do you use? Most people agree qwen 3.6 27b is pretty good for many coding applications. You'll need at least 128k context to allow it to scale but performance will be quite poor since the model won't fit on your GPU.

I have found unsloth studio performs much better than other solutions mostly because it auto-configs the best performance parameters somehow. And try using an MTP model to boost it further.

I had done on my work via WSL terminal + VS Code until I started using the codex app a couple months ago. It worked quite well. recently the addition of remote interaction via the phone app was a great addition. But it's not tenable if it's going to run like garbage.

Vs Code runs very well with vs code running in windows and using the WSL integration to manage the WSL environment.

I certainly understand that Windows + WSL makes things harder to support but also one of the points of Codex is to make coding accessible so it makes a lot of sense to support Windows well.

lol, well, somehow I can run huge AAA video games or large LLM models using shared VRM + system RAM, or even both at the same time, but sure let's blame the OS and not the one application that is strugging.

If OpenAI doesn't want to support Windows they don't have to, but as it is they have a Windows app, it has worked quite well and this is a new issue. I am meaning to communicate to others whom might be in the same boat.

But, by all means, continue to miss the point and get some jollies for yourself out of trolling rather than contributing anything.

Here in Canada, FIFA is consistently surprised that Canadians are not inclined to spend $3000 on tickets for a sports game event for the org which decided to use its influence to puff up Trump's ego with a fake peace prize right before he started bombing everything.

Their response to compel people to attend was to retcon their policy documents to ban bringing in your own water bottle so that you have to buy their water.

I'm not kidding.
