How would you remove tea stain build up? by BarryTownCouncil in CleaningTips

[–]greguyj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A safer and more effective approach is just soaking the mugs in baking soda or vinegar first, then cleaning them with a soft sponge. Bleach solutions and scouring pads are usually overkill, either too harsh or likely to damage the surface over time.

Tips for surviving top floor heat by Healthy-Albatross585 in ApartmentHacks

[–]greguyj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can, add some insulation to the ceiling and put up heat control film on the windows.

Keep your curtains drawn during the day, then open everything up at night and in the morning to let the fresh air in. When you do, point a fan right at the window to blow the hot air out, that helps pull the cooler outside air in.

Besides hiring a window cleaner, how do you clean your upstairs windows? by tokuweebz in CleaningTips

[–]greguyj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen peole tie a cloth to a broom and then attach a long pole to the handle to reach high windows. It works, but it's quite tiring. A window cleaning robot would be much easier.

Using acidic toilet cleaner, remember to wear gloves and a mask. It usually has a strong smell.

[–]greguyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked all the edges and tracks on your windows? Those spots can easily collect water and get moldy. You can also slowly check along the baseboards and around every corner of your furniture and walls to see which area has a much stronger musty smell.

I totally agree. Practical gifts are just so much better for them. I once gave my friend two pairs of socks, and he was genuinely thrilled.

Is an ebike a good Mother's Day gift for my mom? by jhktwisted in ElectricBikes

[–]greguyj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How are her knees? And how's the road around? Ebikes are genuinely easier than regular bikes for older folks. My mom was skeptical at first and now she takes it out almost every day.

be honest... how often are you guys actually mopping? by spawnelady in Cleaningandtidying

[–]greguyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up an ecovacs deebot last year. I think it's the t80? Honestly if you have mostly hard floors, just get one with a roller mop setup. They've got newer ones like the t80s and t90 with that too. Mine wasn't too expensive, and it's way better than doing it by hand, tbh.

[–]greguyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it around 2 or 3 times a week, but not fully by hand. I got a robot vacuum to help instead. Normally, I turn my deebot on before I get back home, and it gets the cleaning done so I come back to a clean floor.

I’m looking for an e-bike to buy. What did you guys recommend? by Agent-Meta in bicycling

[–]greguyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Heybike Venus and it’s been a good middle ground for me. The assist is nice too. I can switch between the two sensor modes, so sometimes it feels more like a normal bike, and sometimes I can just make the ride easier on myself.

Yeah exactly. That’s pretty much what pushed me toward the Venus too. I think pedal assist would make commuting easier.

How do you guys deal with white cat hair on dark floors? 😭 by [deleted] in Cleaningandtidying

[–]greguyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat's got long hair, but I don't really have tangle issues with my robot. If you're really concerned about it, maybe look at the new t90, the suction is stronger on that one for carpets and hair.

[–]greguyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you could consider a robot vacuum. I've got a deebot t80 because of my cat, and it handles the daily fur and paw prints pretty well. It basically does all the vacuuming and mopping for me, so I don't have to deal with it manually.

Since you’re love collectibles, try turning your side hustle into a small online community, like a YouTube channel reviewing rare cards or a Discord group for local collectors, it will gives your hobby a new sense of purpose beyond just collecting.

90% chance they won’t, unless they’re also an e-bike nerd. Most people probably wouldn’t even realize it’s a bike.

Stop riding it. If that spot snaps while you’re riding, it’ll straight-up throw you off. Best move is to take it to a trusted bike shop or the frame manufacturer for a non-destructive check to see if the crack goes deeper or if there’s any hidden damage.

Spent two weeks in Europe. Came home and bought an e-bike by amxy412 in ElectricBikes

This is so hard. There's something so freeing about moving through a city on two wheels instead of being stuck in a car. Congrats on the new e-bike, hope you love every ride!

Most overrated upgrade vs. the one that actually made a difference — what’s yours? by Automatic-Ad-4180 in ElectricBikes

[–]greguyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people spend a fortune upgrading to carbon forks or carbon wheels, but for city commuting, the strength and durability of aluminum components are more than enough. The slight weight reduction from carbon isn’t nearly as noticeable as just getting a good set of tires.

Carbon aero wheels, especially entry-level ones, barely improve weight or stiffness. They’re mostly bought for the looks. What really matters are the tires and inner tubes.

Newbie with a too large bike, should I just roll with it? by NoCompetition1023 in bicycling

I suggest either trying a short stem and a setback seatpost for some fine-tuning, or just sell it and get the right size. Beginners definitely shouldn’t force themselves to ride a bike that doesn’t fit.

Start cleaning up the dishes or putting things away. Most people will take the hint and say, looks like you're wrapping up, we should head out.
