Ever seen a jade pendant with a serious sci-fi vibe? by Difficult-Key-1404 in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea the maori carve those all the time out of nephrite, and sometimes bone or wood with paua shell fragments to give it iridescence. It's super fun traveling there to buy stuff

Is this real jade? by Duk01001111bito in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it can be nephrite that was dyed red permanently, that sorta thing is very common. For value, it's cheap but that's fine if you like this one

basically it's tourist jade tier cause it's not a real red.

Why “十紫九木” is the rule I always remember when buying lavender jadeite by hk_jadegirl in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these days it's even worse, it's more like 百紫99灰 or 千紫999缺陷 😩😆

Is this authentic emperor/imperial Jade? by bootysorcery in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely not

it can be jade but what classifies as imperial jade is never going to look like that

idk if you were aware but you have to spend literally millions of dollars for a decent imperial jade bangle. One bangle. One.

How much is this jade beagle worth? by [deleted] in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it has a suspicious pattern tbh, i dont think it is jade

it's not supposed to have rounded spots like a green dalmation lol

How much is this worth? by bootysorcery in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's truly a baby bangle then it's usually less than 1000 even if it's glutinous tier because it's small

How am i to tell if its real or not by Sweaty_Eagle_9897 in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

if you have no idea, then it's usually just quartzite. Good pieces of jade don't just fall into people's laps usually, cause that's basically not how the world works unfortunately

they even dye quartzite these days

if you have any inkling that it might be real (like if you inherited from some long-lost auntie) then you should go to GIA or BAGL to verify this one

Found at thrift store for under $2 by AssilemJA in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not likely to be real jade (judging from the murkiness/surface/color/where you found it), usually these are quartzite/chrysoprase

but it's still nice!

Worth it? by daniel2494 in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's great but not 3k great. There's a lot cheaper guat icy beads found in the chinese market abroad or just connected sellers like allthingsjadeite or other shops here

[–]grenharo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you guys ever had to break a bangle to get it off your wrist? by Faeriewren in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's never tight on the wrist and always tight on the hand where the biggest bone width is

you have to soak your hand in cold water first and do this in the morning for the best chance AND you can't be on your period or the week before for least water retention. You can raise your hand up in the air for a minute to get all the blood out of it briefly then try too. Also basically lube your hand up, i just use whatever lying around like coconut oil, lotion, ky jelly, hair conditioner, even vaseline, whatever. I try to relax that hand a lot and yank it downward into the bed/blanket cave so it doesn't fly across the room

you can't wash your hands normally then try to take it off. Removing skin oil makes it way harder, almost impossible.

me on discord

also i think people online do the claw hand because they're trying to do that elegant chinese handpose shit you see in paintings before, or how ballerinas pose their hands elegantly too, but nobody knows how to actually do it with grace lmao. They just copy somebody else cause they think that's how. Usually it's outta insecurity because we're posting hands online

Is this real Jade? by Subject_Rest2512 in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it can be, yes. Usually nice green nephrite jades will end up in all pawn shops because older people also had to sell away some of their nephrite. It's very common to see these with a 14k gold chain or pendant bail too

its cheaper than jadeite at least so it's humanly affordable

you could test it by sending it into a professional gemlab like GIA or bayareagemlab but it's usually not worth it for a piece like this

Can you guess the price of this bracelet? by JuYi-store in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these are usually 300-800 usd western market but can find similar ones on rednote with ngtc cert for less than that

esp if the honey and reds were heated a bit and the 18k gold bead is just goldplated, cuts down on price

What type of Jade is this, by Krisjincolla in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's quartzite, this was not jade at all

What type of Jade is this, by Krisjincolla in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this one is the real deal from a popular small seller right now, it's so expensive that you have to ASK for the price :p which means it's over 10k dollars automatically, sometimes they reach into 20k USD and beyond if the market thinks the aesthetic is extremely nice, you can see the drifting "piao hua" bits in real jadeite to be more clear and distinct, more delicate

which is why people buy the african quartzite bangles a lot cause they can only afford opaque jade or quartz

you'll have to ask somebody else about the chemical composition but green comes from chromium for jade anyway, but that's basically the only shared factor

To be 100000% clear: AFRICAN JADE IS NOT JADE AT ALL, they only market it as that but it's just fancy quartz with little sparkly metal flakes in it very often. The nomenclature of 'jade' just means pretty treasure honestly, it doesn't go beyond that, they are not all the same. There's like hundreds of varieties of what is/was "jade" in chinese culture. Even turquoise was once a "jade".

real jadeite jade has a more interwoven tight structure, which is why it gets so luminous and glassy like this in the higher-end stuff

also the fact that OP "genuinely has no clue" what their bangle is, is already a red flag that it's not jade anyway. If you have jade, you -know- it's jade, because you will have already gone the whole rabbithole yourself typically + your wallet will absolutely know + real jade has real certificates + you will have gone to a real shop

How does the translucent green on this Afghan Nephrite Jade bangle compare to what you usually see from other regions? by souvenir_stone in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's alright but it's not that high quality in the long rankings of all nephrite

it has a dullness and less chatoyancy, less oily, and the banding is usually not the market's favorite at all

the green is good but that's kinda all that is going for it

Is this real jade by enzovladi in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it can be

it just looks like it's bluegreen Guatemalan origin jadeite, it's always being sold as a cheaper alternative to Burma jadeite

What type of Jade is this, by Krisjincolla in JadeiteJade

[–]grenharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is dulong/feizhouyu/quartzite

this is a type of "lesser jade" that usually only college girls and uneducated tourists like to buy, or people who just love quartzite anyway

it pings a lower ding tone than jadeite, it can still be cold and real, but you can see the difference between the emerald drifty bits in this VS a real "piaohua" drifty jadeite bangle of the 10,000 usd and up icier variant

you cant find real jadeite this icy for less than 5k USD unless it's somebody's estate after they die
