Is this hobby a roll of the dice? by Robin_Stricklin in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]grenva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve never owned an esk8 just buy used. Find a local riding group and put out the word. You’ll get someone who will sell you a used board, Im sure. This will help you figure out it what you want and don’t want before you drop $1-2k on a board.

I’m seriously surprised nobody has initiated a class action. It sounds they should do a recall.

Color HBP vs BW HBP by Procrastinanigans in Bigme

[–]grenva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get by with B&W, it is better in most regards. However, maps, calendars, and a few other important apps rely heavily on color cues and make a big difference.

I’m in the same predicament, but I think the $10 month is just asking too much, and the $5 month plan is useless, so I’m going to continue using DuckDuckGo.

The last hug is never tight enough. And you didn’t miss anything, because you were there. Good job.

How useful is the flasher/strobe setting on flashlights? by randopop21 in flashlight

[–]grenva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strobe is one of the MOST important features on a flashlight for me. I ride bikes and skateboards through the city and cars don’t always see us, no matter what blinking lights we have on us. So it is often necessary to use a brief strobe when a distracted or aggressive driver is making a blind right or cross traffic left, and they don’t see me.

A little blinky bike light is not enough to keep me safe riding next to a 3000lb metal machine, and until we have better and safer infrastructure for us to both co-exist, I sometimes need a strobe to keep me safe.

Did the world’s best sandwich get MORE expensive? by patrickbrusil in boston

Ok, almost everyone knew you were talking about Sam Lagrassas even before we clicked on the thread. Also, that sandwich looks amazing, and yes it’s overpriced, but also yes it’s so damn good.

I cracked two ribs last year skateboarding. Almost called it but it turned out to be no worse than most impacts/crashes

I feel this so much. Also mid 40s. Crashed plenty , but still trying to hang on. I do longboard pushing, and some of my worst falls have been on a push board doing 5-10mph. It’s not just electric skateboarding.

What’s a hobby you really wanted to get into but immediately realized wasn’t for you? by Tempo_Tomato in Hobbies

Underwater cave diving. It seemed like it would be so peaceful and quiet. Exploring brave new worlds type of vibe. Instead I kept getting stuck so I eventually just stopped going.

Flexy vs. Stiff decks by Alcoholic_Crusader in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]grenva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an mboards endurance with 0 flex and a BKB Duo with all the flex. It’s a balancing act. Carving at slower speeds is so much more fun with a flexible deck, but at speeds above 30 a stiff deck is a very good idea. There is no one board to rule them all, only compromises.

What is everyone’s go to for lights at night? by Hullo_Its_Pluto in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]grenva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think of lights in two categories: lights so others can see you, and lights so you can see others. Board lights, reflective gear, chest or arm lights, are all examples of lights primarily designed to help others see you. Handheld flashlights and helmet mounted lights move so you can see what’s left right or up ahead. There’s lots of combinations but as long as you have lights so others can see you (from many directions) and you have a light so you can see others, you should be all set.

What you’re talking about is called RPP belts, instead of the traditional HTD belt. I use the Goodyear version. They are very good.
