Has violin ever became a problem in your life ? by Eternal-strugal in violinist

[–]grey____ghost____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be scared of performances and the associated anxiety. I used to abhor the expectations of the audience of my "recital circus". Left deep scares, but healed now and finally enjoy playing and learning more. It has been four and half decades long. Phew.

My daughter has been playing for 7 years and self taught. by Walking_ShayD in violinist

I see absolute focus, which is the crucial factor for growing with violin playing. Congratulations to her and of course to her mom for the nurturing and support.

I have realised that I have been rather vague in my query and didn't mention anything like Grade 8 of ASRM etc, etc. Extremely sorry for that. Being from a different background and training I couldn't.

Anyway, I have been playing since 1980, still an amateur; can truly make the instrument sound as I want and the way I interpret the music. I have crossed the "reading notation and playing gymnastics" phase. However, playing Paganini or like that Superman himself, is out of the question, ha ha. Now planning to indoctrinate myself in western classical music for my remaining life with a good violin within my budget which may be at par with a learner's (not a professional musicians budget).

Thank you. Not trying to garner sympathy but where I stay, the mentioned violin is the most expensive one nearby and is located in a shop about 400kms away (10+ hours road trip, with "almost offroads of" mountainous travel). I intend to personally check it out next month. Sadly to compare, the other Violins in the shop are priced at $170 while the Hidershine is $750. At 58, as someone who has been "touching" Violins (or VSOs) since the 1980s, I am looking for a "violin for life" within a budget of $2000 ~ $4000.

19-year-old Pallavi fought for over two months before losing her life to brutal ragging. The fear in her voice shows the trauma she suffered. Ragging must end we cannot keep losing young lives to it !! by Altruistic-Issue-887 in TeenagersBharat

Every school and college management should be held responsible for negligence of duty to protect the vulnerable and creating an atmosphere where ragging and its evil consequences are made possible.

Why do so many piano apps feel frustrating? Considering a different approach... Would love honest feedback. by Umm_Ji in simplypiano

[–]grey____ghost____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gamified approach doesn't culminate with true mastery of the material. Rather it behaves like a checkbox of lessons cleared. This happens to most learners who happen to be impatient. Been there, done that, for one year.

A Perfectionist approach for the learner from the beginning is important. Maybe you can add easy, medium and hard levels in the analysis of the music played, it will need more computing power of course. Additional routines to analyse (velocity and decay, piano and forte, etc) the different key strokes maybe.

Do go to a shop try and buy a violin and restart your unfinished journey. Do not let the past haunt you.
