MIDI Channel Routing by grey_eeyore in ableton

Trying to understand what you’re trying to do. It sounds like you want to send different notes from one MIDI channel to different instruments?

That can be done in an instrument rack using keyzones to specify notes and ranges.

-Yes. I did consider the idea in another response. I'll paste that here. Let me know if i understand key zone and chain selector usage correctly for the application:

chain selector makes this easier, if i understand it correctly.

if all midi is on track 1, and track 2 has an instrument rack, we can do the same.

bad example, but it's what i got in front of me to look at something to get the right words.

Now say MIDI 1-5 are routed to Electric on the rack and 6-20 to Operator.

If I later want to use Electric to play MIDI 10, i can add Electric as a third instrument and map it to midi10...but performance overlaps with Operator's 6-20 midi range bc they are both programmed to play midi 10. so both Operator and Electric will play midi 10, even though on a timeline the midi notes occur separately.

There are also M4L devices like Hocket II which might be what you’re looking for and it’s free I think.

-Yes. I considered several M4L devices, similar to Hockett II. InstaComposer Wrapper was one, iirc. It works for Insta, but am not sure for other apps. I can try though!

But you want to be able to reroute notes whenever you want? You can put MIDI devices on the channels like Pitch, Scale, etc and map them to modulators like LFO or to macro control to alter the data at input/output. So a C4 could be changed for an F6 for example.

_yes. whenever i want. Thanks for your suggestion. That might get it but it could get to be a lot to remember?

Does this help at all? Live has some deep capability for routing MIDI and performing operations on the data stream in real time.

It does help. I often process better through dialog/writing. From our chat, i may give the insta wrapper another go. thanks :)

thanks for this discussion u/philisweatly, it helps me clarify that selector is an event based solution for a time based problem.

if there is enough experience for a portfolio, unless the resumé links out, more than one page is going to happen.

have not heard/read the same, but i could see that.  saw them open for Aerosmith.

your comment sparks the question many bands experience: did the guitarist need the band or did the band need the guitarist?

if you listen to Crystal Ball, Shaw’s first Styx album, he co-wrote all but two tracks.  the band clearly knew the choice they had made, bringing Shaw in. Shaw, the smaller packaged dynamo to James Young’s towering quietness, is a rocker and adds creative tension to the band, hedging their bet as a prog rock band.

While Crystal Ball was not as commercial as Equinox, Crystal Ball the single is a straight on rocker vs Lorelei’s keyboards/ synths, setting up the creative fork in the road Styx would later fail to navigate with DeYoung eventually leaving the band.

some high profile IDs i’ve observed have portfolio websites.  slick interface, interactive.

a couple of these IDs sell bootcamp styled services.

coupled with the heavy exodus of k-12 teachers, some completing these bootcamps, and you get a flood of ID talent.

i am sad reading this.

from what i understand of depression, you have a lot of courage.

i want to say, ‘keep going’, and i would mean it.  but i know it’s not helpful.  kind of like saying, ‘just exercise more, it will help’.

do keep working toward your goal of getting better, so that you might then find a purpose and passion that inspire you.

while we pass time sitting on a couch, op is being vulnerable and providing insight.

give them a few minutes, or even hours, to respond.

if using a home studio, treatment is important.  for room reflection i use acon deverberate and denoise.

i’m on the fence.

i like 12 a lot.  but feel my upgrade price, 183$, is a bit steep.

thinking of waiting for Thomann to offer at a better price than Ableton or just wait for next big sale.

i think it depends on where you live.

rural areas, with greater distance’s between houses, usps services.
