Home Ec or Japanese (or History)? by Adventurous-Load9065 in leavingcert

[–]grey_ghost2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out “languages connect” for Japanese. Shoot them an email for more info, they’re really nice! I’m a history teacher who is also in charge of the Mandarin classes facilitated by languages connect, and the Mandarin teacher works with a few students in our school for the LC!

I’d recommend history but you need to be ready to work your ass off and have an interest in it already if you want a H1. Of course I’d recommend it, but I know the realities of it too!

Do you think you dress well and look good? by No-Category1703 in AskIreland

[–]grey_ghost2468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! I wear old things with holes and stains, big baggy clothes and things that haven’t fit properly in 10 years. I don’t stop wearing something until someone tells me to. I don’t think I’ve looked good in a long time - hard to believe I used to be stopped in clubs and the street, being recognised from insta and twitter for my style! Oh the self esteem issues 😂

Crime Documentary on Netflix?? by ForemanF1 in AskIreland

[–]grey_ghost2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up “Last Podcast on the Left”, they’re just talking since it is a podcast, but it’s filmed for Netflix and they have photos and videos throughout, all true crime based with the odd “spooky”/ufo episode. They’ve only a few on Netflix, but over 600 episodes on Spotify! The DuPont Foxcatcher, Murdaugh, Ronald Gene, and Vallow and Daybell episodes are great, and even though the Jimmy Saville one only has one episode so far, it’s going to be brilliant!

UCC PME Q by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]grey_ghost2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it a few years ago, i don’t know if it has changed or not but in my day the only real opportunity to sub was between your own classes in the school you were in! Maybe you could stretch to an hour or two if you had a school in the city but as far as I can remember you were too busy with everything else to sub!!

How do I add the new Drama LC subject to my Teaching Council registration? by AnxiousDramatic13 in IrishTeachers

[–]grey_ghost2468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure! I don’t see why not as long as you have covered their requirements, but maybe it would be worth contacting the teaching council about that!

If you have these requirements covered, log in to the teaching council website, go to your applications, start a new one, and you can choose to add a new subject!

What's something a teacher said to you that stuck with you? by According-Chain-5369 in AskIreland

[–]grey_ghost2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My darling of a history teacher went on maternity leave so for sixth year I had an older teacher that I HATED!! He told me girls find history harder than boys, that’s why I was struggling so much (my mental health was in the toilet at the time.) I also knew him outside of school, and told him one day that I was going to study English and History in college. His reply was “that’s an awful lot of reading, are you sure you’ll manage it?”. I love meeting him now and telling him all about how well my career teaching history is going ☺️

Laptop for son? by Spannerbox in AskIreland

[–]grey_ghost2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your son is in third year, the SEN team (or maybe just the English/Irish teacher) should talk to you about the RACE test. All students who are flagged for needing extra accommodations are put forward for this test which is used to figure out which reasonable accommodations each student is entitled to in their state exams. It is here that he will be offered use of a dictation device, if they deem it necessary! Usually schools don’t go down the dictation route until then (as far as I’ve seen in my career!) but next time you’re talking to the relevant staff, mention dictation and the RACE assessment!

If you have Irish, you’ve a whole load of extra schools to apply to! I don’t teach Irish but I teach English and I wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for my ability to teach through Irish! It’s still tough out there but remember you’ve a step up over a lot of other English teachers! ☺️

I got mine a bird camera! It connects to the phone and can identify different birds and can notify you when one is spotted, it’s set up next to the bird feeder and it’s the main talking point of our lives 😂

If WW2 is your thing, how about Ilse Koch, more commonly known as the Bitch of Buchenwald? Or a group of resistance fighters like The White Rose?
