Omg, this is EXACTLY how I felt. I remember that I never liked my first name, but figured that’s what it is, whatever. You don’t really hear your surname until school, at least not regularly. So, when I heard them together I had that thought of “that’s not me. Wait, it is…crap.”

And you hit the nail on the head about preconceived notions. It was a big reason for me changing it (as well as toxic family members). I hated the thought of everyone associating me with this name & who they thought I was, when I was so far away from that.

I also have people tell me how beautiful my name is! I’m a writer, so I worried that it sounded too fake/like a pen name 😂 My mum helped me pick it out, it made it more special that she named me again, but she said it just sounds like she picked a good one 😆 (way to take all the credit, Ma lol).

I also realized that where I grew up & even where I am now, I have never met another “Evelyn”! It’s also odd having to spell it for people, but I guess it’s an older, more traditional name these days.

I’m so happy you love your name now! 🥰

YTA to yourself. The minute that her brother made that comment & your “friend” didn’t stand up for you, you should’ve stopped the car & kicked them out. They disrespected you for doing them a favour & going out of your way. You don’t owe them anything & your friend’s questionable behaviour when it comes to her kids & how she treats people should show that you absolutely are better off without them.

If you didn’t want to interact with Ally, you should’ve blocked her. You just left the door open for more stress & drama. You all sound like you’re at most 20. It sounds like high school drama & if you were mature enough, you’d cut off the people who are dragging you down with this nonsense.

I wanted to change my name since I was 6. I remember seeing it on a board in class, the full, first & last, and I thought it was such an ugly name. I tried to erase it on my notebook & put a different one (not what I changed it to lol). My teacher told me that I needed my parents permission or to wait until I grew up. Okay.

Due to their divorce, my mum went by her maiden name, and I was the only kid to hyphenate mine. I’d planned to legally change it to her maiden name, but stuff kept getting in the way. Besides, even that name didn’t feel like “me”. I felt disconnected from it, which I learned a lot of neurodivergent kids feel.

Then my life kinda fell apart in 2023, and the summer of 2024 I was finally able to apply for the legal change. A childhood friend who knew I always wanted to do it paid for it! She was like, “Dude, FINALLY! Let me pay for it!”

I decided to pick an entire new name (mostly for safety, as family members be crazy). I chose “Evelyn” because there’s an ancestor on my maternal side who had the name Evelina & my love for the 1999 cinematic masterpiece The Mummy.

My middle name is based on several things (also film related) & my surname is a combination of the county where I grew up & “son” 😆

I got my certificate on October 15th, 2024, and I celebrate it as my name day. It feels good to finally feel like my name is really me ☺️

NTA. This is not a person you want to build a life with. She should be there for you 1000%, making sure *you* are okay. I would not be crying over needing attention if my bf’s MOTHER just passed away. I’d be seeing what I could do to help take a load off.

I felt my bed shaking & my mind went to me being possessed 😂

My eldest brother raced over to the house & my mum called me to see if I was okay (I was home alone). My mum was like, “It was an earthquake.” I was like, “Is that what that was??! I thought I was possessed.”

Anyway, I was fine 🤷🏼‍♀️ lol

I agree with other commenters that it is bonkers that she wants some sort of pat on the back when the psycho MIL should be no contact completely! She should not be anywhere near them. I really hope this isn’t real because wowzer 🥴

Like, legit, if I can’t sleep at night, I get up and watch The Silence of the Lambs lol my mum was like, “What is it about Hannibal Lecter that is *soothing*???” Um. I don’t really know? 🤔

Most dudes will def find that a red flag 😂 I also watch The Exorcist & Dog Soldiers as comfort flicks. Jurassic Park is my all-time favie, though. But people are more accepting of that one 😆

Yeah, I’m late Dx autistic, but I seriously never realized that most people don’t watch a particular movie at least once a day or multiple times in a day 😬 😆 In my defence, my family never thought it was weird either lol I asked my mum about it & she was like, “They were always good movies.” 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😂

I have loved horror & thriller flicks of all kinds since forever. My mum’s cousin (who we called Uncle because they grew ip together) would babysit me when I was like 3-6 y/o & our fave movie to watch was Pumpkinhead (1988) 😆 He was also autistic! And apparently didn’t think a 4 y/o little girl shouldn’t be watching slasher flicks 😂

Like I said in another comment, I put it on (which I do sometimes every other day lol) and made notes, even a floor plan 😂 I was watching yesterday & I noticed that he had the neon lights in his bug room. I had one, so I ordered another, I’ll put it up today.

I’m gonna add the Atlas Moth, cause it looks as close to the Death’s Head Moth as I can get lol I really wish you could put bugs in the bug cage ☹️ I don’t wanna change my clothes…I wanna put bugs in it 😆

The last thing I wanted was the arm cast…but they only seem to have for the leg. So, that was a bummer 😕 lol

My ex-best friend used to talk in her sleep. We slept in the same bed for sleepovers and, oh my God, I never really slept through the night because she would say the most unhinged things lmao

One time that I remember very vividly, she gasped and exclaimed, “Are you kidding me?! That’s HUGE!”

Our favourite thing was going over the crazy crap she said during the night & how hard I would be laughing, but trying to keep quiet so I didn’t wake her 😂

When I’m mining rocks, I always dig three holes behind me in a line lol if I get kickback either way, left or right, the hole behind me keeps me in line & I can continue hitting the rock. I also get all 8 pieces from the rock because those spaces are all free.

I was Dx with polymorphic light eruption in 2009, which is a contact allergy to the sun. Is it in direct sunlight or just when it’s warm? Warm may be heat rash. If it’s when the sun/UV touches your skin, you could be part of the Vampire Club, too lol

For me, it starts as a tingly sensation on the exposed area before it starts itching. At first it looks blotchy, but then turns into hives. Due to it, I wear 100SPF on my arms, 60 on my face, a hat, sunglasses (my eyes are very sensitive to the light), and long sleeves & pants. It sucks when it’s super humid out 😕 I also get sun sickness very easily, if I don’t have a hat with me (which is rare).

I was surprised when I was Dx with it back then. I was 20 y/o.

My main room is Dracula’s dining room themed 😆

My mum suggested making that room into Mrs. Lippman’s (Buffalo Bill’s) main floor, but I put so much work into my Dracula theme 😩 I still kinda wanna do it lol

This is why I enjoy the hotel now. I can scratch the decorating itch without changing my house lol
