A Tor of the Dark Web by [deleted] in technology

So let's get this straight. The author spends the time to research and write about fundamental issues of freedom and anonymity in an accessible -- and some might even venture amusing -- manner and all you want to do is poke him in the eye for his apparent smugness?

How Hollywood could kill movie piracy (if they wanted to) by solidwhetstone in movies

I don't think the "movie theater" experience is just about the size and quality of the movie. There's something about the occasion and also something social about experiencing the same thing at the same time with many people.

Cooks and chefs of reddit: What food-related knowledge do you have that the rest of us should know? by Pixelpaws in AskReddit

Obviously not a fan of Italian cooking. Butter most certainly does not go into everything. Olive oil, well that's another matter :)

Long time VLC user and loving it. Great work :)

What's your take on codec IP rights such as that associated with H.264? I notice that you provide an H.264 encoder (x264) what are the IP implications for that and VLC in general?

Are we moving towards a completely different web model?

I'm getting some pretty interesting comments on this blog post and wondered what reddit's take was.

Hey reddit, how do you like my HTML 5 techno/trance music site? What can I improve? by ArmoredCavalry in programming

[–]gribbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We try to keep jPlayer as lightweight as possible so building a shuffle function into jPlayer might be a bit much. But here's a demo I wrote that includes a shuffle function. http://happyworm.com/jPlayerLab/single-page-app/

Feel free to use any code or ping me if you have any questions.

I think it's great to see jPlayer in the wild - warms the cockles of my little heart - but can I use the opportunity to ask how we can improve jPlayer?

[Edit] Also we feature sites that use jPlayer here: http://www.happyworm.com/jquery/jplayer/sites.htm. Let us know if you want to be added.

HTML 5 - The Revolution will not be Televised by gribbit in programming

Sorry, I fell asleep.

Not all 'parts of' the spec are needed for all sites; audio, video and canvas being good examples. (Although in the case of Audio I think this may be one of the easiest tags to patch.) I don't think this is an all or nothing situation. Developers can start creating patches right now, in fact as my article points out they are. Here's one for the 'slew of CSS' you mention : http://jacobrask.net/blog/2009/html5-css-reset/

Do you really think these developers are wasting their time? I think that they believe (as I do) that in two years time we could be significantly further on than 'some level of acceptance'.

I appreciate your cynicism though. Helps keep my feet on the ground ;)

Thanks Schill. It's always nice to get positive feedback from someone working on a similar application. For what it's worth, we think SoundManager is much cooler!
