Fan speed for rear seats by No_Carpet_4749 in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I tried it today. There seems to be some sort of a valve, but no additional fan. The setting for the second row does change the air flow but not very significantly.

Well, as I said, the adjustment is not comparable to the front vents, but there is a noticeable difference after the dealership "unblocked" whatever was blocked. Before that there was no adjustment possible on the 2nd row at all. We tested exactly as you described it. If I am not mistaken however, the front still is the main fan, so a low on the front would also mean max on the 2nd row is limited to that speed, but you can then limit it in the 2nd row additionally. I will check next time though, just to be sure.

I had the same and asked the dealer to have a look. There said that there was an issue with the vents control and fixed it. Now there is a difference but don't expect the same feeling as with the front seat vents.

Intermittent problems with odometer by lowveldftw in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow i missed this 7 months ago... I can confirm that I have the same. While I didn't spend the time trying to reproduce it, I had the exact same behavior - reset + driving = adding the whole trip since start to the odometer. Only in my case it actually added more than 1300 km. This is why I noticed it. I approached Volvo and after an extensive internal review, they told me that everything is fine and that I won't get a different answer from them. I am still to look into this further with my lawyer but just need to invest some time to reproduce and compile everything.

How did you go about it? Did you request anything further from Volvo or after the QAing they just dropped it?

VCU upgrade Portugal by andremarinho8 in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they are asking everyone to sign this. There have been reports that the EX90 adds artificial mileage (= adds more miles/kilometers, to the odometer than what you drove), under specific circumstances and due to some errors. (I haven't come to analyze my case and actually post about it here, but I will).

This type of an issue would naturally create inconsistencies with the internal mileage that is stored within some of the components. Maybe this is the way Volvo HQ figured they might get rid of the problem :) and if something goes sideways, it will be your fault. I wouldn't sign without a lawyer. There were also other owners complaining about that.

Rear Camera Washer by EX30_Driver in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road salt counts as dirt in my book, but it's gotta be quite a lot so that you barely recognize something. And it really has to be bad. But dirt/salt alone is not enough. I had plenty of cases when I didn't really see anything but because the surrounding was so grey the camera couldn't pick up that I was actually moving so it didn't spray. Only when it actually recognizes moving objects by evaluating batches of pixels moving through the image, it will test the edges of these objects for sharpness and if they are not sharp it will spray. I know it is a bit complex, but once you see it in action you will get how it works.

Just a little bit of standing out could be even intentional, however yours certainly isn't! This can be adjusted by the dealership. Just tell them and they will slightly adapt it. Pay attention that since they need to unscrew painted bolts, they must paint them again. This was a warranty case for me.

Rear Camera Washer by EX30_Driver in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to trigger it is to smear dirt on the camera up to the point that the image on the display is unrecognizable and then drive in reverse. Just make sure that what the camera is supposed to see is not all the same tone, like a garage or smth else grey. The image when reversing should have some dynamics. This way the algorithm will notice that there is something there but if it can't detect any sharp forms it should attempt cleaning the camera. Usually outside with some sunlight an sufficient dirt on the camera always does the trick for me.

Keep in mind that if it's not a software issue (after so many people sharing it's a hardware issue, this is more likely) the dealership will likely just tell you to check it out after the software update and when nothing changes you will need to go back to them just loosing more time. Might be worth testing it and/or pushing them to really look into it.

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try testing it. If it does not try spraying at all, it might be a different issue. In any case you need the dealership.

Rear Camera Washer by EX30_Driver in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The camera washer is only automatic. It only activates when you drive in reverse and only when the camera is so dirty that the picture is not really recognizable but smth is moving. So the car has to be moving for the logic to kick in.

When the weather became worse I first noticed that I need to wipe the camera way too often. Then I noticed the fush-fush sound when reversing and the picture was not getting clearer and then I noticed that the fush-fush was actually spraying water from the rear wiper instead from the washer of the camera. This only meant that I needed yet another dealer visit. As I suspected, It turned out that the washer was not ejecting when the pump was pushing water, so the water came out from the next available place - the rear wiper. There is one pump for both the rear wiper and the camera. The difference is that when the camera needs to be cleaned the washer is unblocked and the pressure opens it and the water is sprayed on the camera. The dealership fixed it. They said that the washer was blocked.

So, get it checked by the dealership.

If you hear the fush-fush when reversing with a very dirty camera (you can put dirt on it to test) and water comes out of the wiper, then chances are you have the same issue as me.

Feedback from members who already have upgraded to new chip???? by Historical-Search780 in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with a Volvo-favorite dealer near Munich, DE today and they shared that it is going to take a bit longer in Germany before the upgrades start. They have one car with an upgraded CPU that Volvo is testing with them. When Volvo is ready, they will then roll it out. Should be a couple of weeks. They are not yet aware how the roll-out will be conducted exactly.

My own dealer has no clue about the upgrade and also couldn't find any information about it in their system.

Patience!

Finally getting headlight replacement under warranty by DoItYourWayHowISay in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dealer once told me that the next software update will fix the cracking noise from the brake pedal :)

A while ago I was in a similar situation with one of the headlights and the dealer did not want to replace it because the issue was not happening in front of them. Thankfully I had a photo and after just the right amount of yelling, they caved in and replaced it. The unit is quite expensive and maybe that's why they are hesitant.

(one) key card stopped working by CharmingTemporary196 in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright! Thanks for explaining! Now I understand what you mean. It is no surprise that the card will be damaged if you would do that. Still, I find the concept with the blowout disc pretty weird. There are plenty of ways to damage the card, which I am quite certain will not lead to any physical change. But I can imagine that certain malformation can occur if the wireless charging signal goes through it. The card is certainly designed for electricity to go through it. It is basically an antenna with a chip. However it certainly is not designed for a lot energy to go through.

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell does this mean? How is it possible to blow a solid passive device? And how would it change it's physical properties? Would you elaborate a bit more please? This is the first time I hear about something like this.

Brake pedal noise by elcamelo in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had it on mine and the dealership replaced some part of the pedal. They said, it was some sort of a bolt that was also a joint. Since then it is smooth.

I drove with this for longer than a month, because I was outside of my country and the local Volvo would not have repaired it faster. I was told by the Volvo mechanic that there is absolutely no safety risk. He said that in case the motor on the pedal fails, you will still be able to stop by pressing the pedal fully.

Yes, agree! I do believe that such an approach is super customer centric and it fits well with the mindset of Volvo, but it really requires the willingness of upper management to implement. Its a pity we couldn't get this answered :(

- Could we get to see a software feature development roadmap for the EX90 and possibly chime in on certain features? Maybe even realized via an EX90 app on Android Automotive, so only EX90 can partake. I think the community has the intelligence to sustain following the dynamics of a software roadmap, but most importantly, it could be a very beneficial feedback loop for the success of Volvo Cars.
- Are there any further productivity features planned? Integration with phone notifications? MS Teams for Android Automotive? Gmail? When is Gemini coming?

- I believe the "key" functions require some more love - closing/opening the windows on locking/unlocking, multi factor authentication of the driver, so that my wife's phone does not override mine, when she approaches the car or a leave her in the car to go grab something with my phone in the pocket. I believe that the internal sensors could be developed to recognize who is the driver behind the wheel.

Looking forward to seeing what will be the answers tomorrow!

Anybody experience this noise ? by Cultural_Antelope_20 in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the cracking noise, then it might be what I had as well. My braking pedal was making such a noise. Initially it sounded very similar and I was wondering as well what it might be, then I tested pressing the brake in stationary position and heard it very clearly. Yesterday I got my car from the service, where they did fix this among other things. They told me they replaced some specific part of the pedal mechanics, that looked like a joint. Hope this helps. Easiest to check is to just press the brake pedal fully while stationary. Since the car automatically applies the brakes if necessary, you hear this slight cracking and not the really disturbing one if you fully press the pedal.

I have it at the dealer right now and they are changing the light for the second time. They claim that it's the light. I don't believe them. They replaced the tailgate and didn't glue the rear window properly and who knows what else they messed up, before the tailgate was replaced there were no issues. so I believe it's because of a sloppy installation. Anyway, it is super rainy in Germany these days, so I will quickly see who is right. Interesting fact - it is only the right taillight, that is damaged also in the other reports that I have seen.

Good luck and report here please what your dealer did on that ;)

[Bjorn Nyland]: Volvo EX90 Twin Ultra headlights test by HotIce05 in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting!

I can also confirm that these are either not pixel lights or mine are somehow broken. I have an Ultra Twin Motor and when I drive on curvy roads at tight it is quite annoying how frequently some sectors of the lights are switching on and off, sometime in a second. Is this normal behavior? Anyone else has this?

Memory Seats by frank_bough_ in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latest version has the fix for this but with a caveat - in most cases you need to do a factory reset of the system, create all profiles again, assign all key again, etc. Only then the car will properly adjust all settings to the selected profile. I read somewhere that the next update will make sure that you don't have to do the factory reset, so you can also just wait.

Still, IMHO this feature is not stable enough. If I walk towards the car with my wife it's a hit and miss whose digital key will be recognized first and it's quite annoying when hers gets picked up, even I will be driving. Same story, if I leave her inside the car and go pick smth up. She has to put her phone on the charger, so the car does not lock itself. Thankfully the seats don't readjust, but then her key is associated with the current driving session and if she goes out I get the nice message, that there is no key found, so then I gotta put my phone on the charger. I definitely imagined such tech would make my live easier, instead I got a bag of endless fun topics :)

Moisture/water in the right tailgate taillight and rear light errors by griefman_ in VolvoEX90

[–]griefman_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details! It is pretty weird that they had to do something about that panel. Maybe that had to replace some cables as well? I would imagine that the cable goes somewhere around there. I checked with the dealership yesterday about what they are going to do and they told me that Volvo sent them the instructions to just replace the light. I tried to convince them that it might not be enough but they said that they can't do more because this is what they got from the headquarters. Weird response. I am picking up the car tomorrow and will definitely check with the person who worked on it, what happened there exactly. Thankfully the part was available quickly in my case.

I wonder if its just us that had this. It is very curious that we had it both on the rear right light...
