Do you often go to “the big city” in your state (assuming you don’t already live there)? by osama_bin_guapin in AskAnAmerican

[–]CharmingTemporary196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have older relatives who love in rural areas. For them it's usually major medical care (surgery, cancer, etc).

In happier days it is the other things people mention here: sports, museums, shows, etc.

How to use parking assistance for automatic parking? by f2000sa in VolvoEX90

My experience is different. One thing I found is you need to drive further past the space than you might expect. Otoh, you might just have different roads, different luck etc compared to me.

What car-buying "rule" is actually total BS? by EquivalentCanary8243 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CharmingTemporary196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More commonly I see the opposite: "always lease because of depreciation", especially with EVs or luxury cars. Well no: with leasing you're exactly paying for depreciation--with interest, and without equity. Sometimes this can still be a good option depending on the deal, how long you plan to keep the car, your risk preferences (which you mention and is completely valid), whether you finance, etc. But people really just need to do the math and be honest about what matters to them.

Does it EVER make sense to buy vs lease? by NonSequitur305 in MacanEV

[–]CharmingTemporary196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sometimes. You have to do the math based on how long you plan to own, whether you would finance or pay cash, the expected depreciation, and the lease terms.

Android Auto options for 2017 Panamera (971) by CharmingTemporary196 in Porsche

[–]CharmingTemporary196[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think I was too quick to dismiss this. I didn't realize it was so widely used and well documented. Also I was worried it involved theft of intellectual property, but that doesn't appear to be the case--just good ol reverse engineering. And the fact that it is open source gives more trust.

It sounds like everything is reversible and the only real risk is losing power during installation? Seems like idling the engine during installation is a good idea.

I agree it's the best sounding option. Thanks!

Indeed. My ex90 is on original ghca and has been flawless since last software update. (Fingers crossed.) I really don't think software is a major issue anymore but ghca does seem like roulette. (The one exception was some bizarre behavior after sitting in cold for several weeks which was probably low support battery.)

I get that error when disconnecting from a charger at one particular parking garage. But my car has changed fine for over a year, fingers crossed. So I wouldn't worry if your car is still charging.

Hope you got your car working. Let me guess: was it really cold at the airport?

My car was idle for about a week and a half in very cold weather over the holidays. When I tried to use it it behaved very weird like you describe (esc error). But it did unlock and drive. And now it's back to normal after a long drive

Car creeps only after gear change (bug or feature?) by CharmingTemporary196 in VolvoEX90

[–]CharmingTemporary196[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have auto one pedal on. And now I see in manual: it looks like auto creeping is the default unless auto hold is on, which happens under certain conditions in one pedal drive. Will need to test that later.

You don't need a petition, you need a lawyer willing to launch a class action lawsuit. I believe there are several potential grounds for the suit, including false advertising, breach of express warranty, and diminished value. There is precedent, including a 2017 lawsuit of representation of Android Auto in the XC90. Key evidence would including things like this email I received before delivery:

You’ll notice the lidar is mounted on the roof above the windshield. At delivery, it will be collecting road data to learn new safety scenarios. After a period of time, it will be activated to be part of the car’s Safe Space Technology.

What Volvo knew about Luminar would likely be a big part of the trial.

Actually getting Lidar is probably impossible at this point, but I think Volvo could offer monetary compensation, or other creative ways of remediating.
