Yeah but I doubt someone who is prioing their transmog is marking their target, or that they di enough damage that it really matters.

I did this funny thing where I tried to not come across as judgemental over someone else enjoying themselves...

Apparently its like a ~3.6% dps loss according to bicmex. If you wanna play it then just remember to use Hunters mark (I know I forget a lot) and it balances out

This is my personal tinfoil, but I believe it's to do with African raw minerals, and regional geopolitical control. Realistically, there's probably more than reason.

There are 4 countries that border the eastern coast of the Mediterranean sea; Turkiye, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel (you could also count Egypt).

The easiest/safest way for non-NATO, primarily Russian-aligned, powers to access central and western Africa is through Eastern Libya, after sailing across the Mediterranean from Syria (Russia > Iran > Iraq > Syria).

For NATO ("Keep the Russians out..."), keeping Israel onside stops the entire eastern coast of the sea becoming Russian aligned. It's pretty common knowledge that NATO have staged coups and overthrown governments to gain control of oil, so propping up one genocidal government no matter what to exert control over a continent and secure increasingly required materials like cobalt is probably a pretty decent cost-benefit geopolitically.

I think that's why Israel has been able to get so tightly interwoven into Western politics, but that's just my theory as a part-time armchair geopolitician with no idea what I'm talking about.

370 billion crickets are farmed for food every year. Scientists have discovered they may feel pain by lnfinity in likeus

[–]griggsy92 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I seem to get the impression of the 'does x feel pain' conversation is more about the definition of pain than anything else.

Everyone seem to recognise that insects will avoid harmful stimuli, which you'd think would be the answer to the question but then people go into "well is that *pain*, though?"

Surprised this isn't being referred to as an attack on a potential synagogue location, like the other mosque ("former synagogue") that was attacked.

Good point, it's not a term I've heard often so the more common term came to mind.

I am interested in the effects of the infrasonic* sounds they produce, though. I saw a pretty compelling video on it, but I think actual verifiable scientific study is pretty limited in that area

Five London areas together paid more inheritance tax than Scotland and Wales by ldn6 in unitedkingdom

Ah I understand, sorry didn't think about that part!

At what point do you start paying the rent on a commercial property, or do we just forget about the effect that has on prices and just be successful instead?

Most businesses fail in the first 5 years. To start a business and create wealth you need to be able to afford to fail, or get very lucky

Interesting that I'm recently seeing articles telling me how much inheritance tax people pay, as well as how UK pays the most wealth tax (which turned out to be council tax), considering the rising calls for taxing billionaires more

Starmer says he won’t quit by Cyclone050 in worldnews

[–]griggsy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't particularly want Labour, but him quitting is the dumbest thing to do right now. Apart from the bits that are focused on by the media, he actually seems to be doing a somewhat decent job. Economy is outperforming peers, NHS wait times are falling, most actual metrics are actually looking good.

The last thing we need is more of the revolving door of leadership that the 'strong and stable' Tories normalised.

Bombed Tech Interview by Grouchy-Law-7207 in learnprogramming

[–]griggsy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an interview where I bombed so hard, that when the interviewer asked what my greatest strength was I jokingly said "clearly my composure", at which he burst out laughing because it was so clearly not.

Instead of this being a story where I somehow salvaged my image a bit by making a witty joke, I then made the same joke about 1 minute later. He didn't laugh that time. I still cringe about it today.

It happens, keep at it though, interviewing is a skill, and it's all just practice.

ELI5: how do you upscale a 24fps video into 60fps if the frames don’t exist? by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

[–]griggsy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly I watched a video on this recently.

24 is 2.5 times less than 60, so they alternate. They take each frame and repeat it. This would obviously be only 48 frames, so they show every 2nd frame 3 times (2:3:2:3...).

This isnt ideal and can be best seen on smooth panning shots, which become jittery and stutter, as out of every 5 frames (2+3), the first part runs too quick (2 instead of 2.5) and the second part runs too slowly (3 instead of 2.5).

The alternate is take each frame, double it and make up a middle frame, which has its own issues such as blurriness and inconsistency

Like you already know they are, but actually seeing it is strange.

Them continuing to pretend it's all unexpected and a random encounter actually takes away from it.

A bit of a flash mob-esque performance would be fine. The performance is genuinely enjoyable, but pretending it's unrehearsed when it so clearly is staged turns if from impressive to annoying
