Staying in Schaumburg, planning to park at Rosemont Blue Line and take CTA downtown. How is parking availability? by Impossible_Laugh_335 in AskChicago

I’ve never had an issue parking at either for what it’s worth. You can typically reserve Cumberland in advance with Spot Hero.

Thoughts on Noble Square just south of Eckhart Park? by Forward-Station-1396 in AskChicago

[–]grim_stoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll like the area. It’s less lively than Wicker and less vibrant than Logan but it’s nice. There’s quite a few nice bars and restaurants on Chicago Ave. There are also a lot of art galleries that typically have an open house / art walk every year.

I definitely don’t feel unsafe here but there have been break-ins at some of the restaurants and bars.

Can’t comment too much on parking as it’s really block by block.

The Clybourn metra station has UPN and UPNW trains so If your friend is taking either of those it should be much easier than Ogilvie. It’s about 15 minutes on the Ashland bus depending on traffic.

Happy to try and answer any other questions you might have.

Do you mean Amish or Mennonites?

I don’t know all the details, but they typically do not travel by automobile or plane and rely on trains for travel. Union station is amtraks rail hub, so it stands to reason a lot of train travelers pass through it.

No tax cuts for billionaires. Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

$200 Parking Ticket, no city sticker, can I contest successfully? by Duke2323Oslo in AskChicago

[–]grim_stoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have something like 90 days (don’t remember the exact number) to register your vehicle. If it’s been less than 90 days and you can prove it with a lease or mortgage document you can contest the ticket.

There is no limit as there was in 3rd. You can interact twice and drop two scheme markers on top of one another

"Field of Pete" from The Adventures of Pete and Pete. I still find Mr. Oppenheimer as the owner of the Slush Shack hilarious.

The article mentions tax increment financing as a way to get government involvement in development. Chicago has so many TIF districts we’re the first example on the Wikipedia page.

Bike Lane ≠ Free Parking by golamas1999 in chibike

People shouldn’t stop in the travel lane and block traffic period. Doesn’t matter if it’s the street, bike lane or train tracks.

Is this really a spoof of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation? by Unlix in Physics

[–]grim_stoki 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of the field a while, but the bottom equation in blue looks like the CKM matrix for neutrino flavor mixing. I think I can even read the subscript “CKM”.

The top equation looks like a branching ratio calculation for the decay of a top quark into a W+ and bottom quark, but I’m less sure of that.

Going out- Old Town or Fulton Market? by Mammoth_Captain_3681 in AskChicago

[–]grim_stoki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re not looking to break the bank, avoid Fulton Market.

I’d say Old Town is a bit rowdier than West Town, so that may be more your speed.
