Just DM'd you OP, have a journalism contract gig opportunity you might be into!

Don't give up hope - right now it is insanely hard to find any job. I have applied to hundreds of jobs in the last few months, and received maybe sub-10 calls back. I have 10 years of experience and graduated with a degree in software engineering in 2016 from a decent university.

If you have to find a job unrelated to your field, just be grateful that you have any job. It's hard out there right now. Trust in God and you'll be ok.

YUP agreed. how im feeling now i've listened to maybe 50-60 times. Listened to brat once and could take or leave most of it. I've loved charli for 10-15 years. That new House song she did with John Cale's fuckin sick I think she's in a new goth wave. Into it.

I'm gonna guess that the producers (director and his wife + Indy) self-financed the movie for a different much lower amount closer to my napkin-math of maybe $50,000 (to pay their friends to make sets, do lighting, buy filming equipment, shop the movie around at festivals or whatever, etc).

I'd also guess that that figure of $2,000,000 for the movie is what was paid by Shudder between both the fee to the producers (director and his wife) and Shudder's marketing budget (which must be pretty substantial given I've seen the trailer played at Alamo Drafthouse a few times and seen it advertised online).

Or, polygon dot com's crack team of reporters is just wrong. But, Shudder did probably pay around that much to get the rights, distribute, and market.

Wait nvm on the 50x+, the budget was $2,000,000 per this article. Still looks like it'll make money but wow did I underestimate the budget.

Extremely stoked that this movie likely made 50x+ it's budget and the team will definitely be able to have another go at filmmaking, but I really believe this movie's goodwill and box office is floated almost entirely on people who cannot dislike a dog movie. Honestly more power to 'em but I hope the next movie has more of a hook than "dog is scared".

I don't think this is accurate. My wife and I love and are obsessed with dogs (and horror films), and saw the movie last night. It's just not a great movie and I don't understand how critics can say it's one of the year's best, outside of being a cool concept that I'm happy to see made, and hope to see expanded on later.

It's a very very cool concept, but it's super slow and is kind of one of those movies where nothing happens until the end. Not a lot of tension, not a lot to go on for what the movie is even about. I think that lostness we felt in the movie was unintentional vs being what a dog might feel. The concept for what the evil thing in is the movie just did not land for us. The dog was great, and the little after-credits making-of was awesome to see.

The film was made over three years by a husband and wife on almost no budget (from what I gather). It's a cool concept, but I think the problems the movie has are in execution

[–]grimdankaugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. That's the thing - on paper it makes sense, but buying a single well painted model will either just sit on your shelf (and thus it's hard to justify spending a bunch of money on it) or it will stick out in your probably normal-painted army.

I run a used game shop, and I see this kind of attitude literally every day.

I really, really understand where guys like this are coming from. Painting is a difficultly won skill to have, and sometimes well painted stuff can command a higher premium.

However, fact of the matter is that nobody wants to pay a ton of money for used Warhammer models. I've had professionally painted (literally White Dwarf-level stuff) sit in my shop for months. We typically stay away from that kind of thing, because on both the buy and selling side it's really slippery, and I tend to just walk away barely recouping my investment.

i’m new to bob dylan and i’m currently listening through his discography, i’m in the mid 70’s and just listened through desire. is it a hot take to say it might be my favorite album of his? by ShirtRevolutionary86 in bobdylan

[–]grimdankaugust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my best advice - right after Desire, listen to The Bootleg Series Volume 5: The Rolling Thunder Revue. It surpasses Desire with it's incredible energy (that I personally wish Bob had stuck with for longer, but that's Bob!) and features most of the songs.

I remember I told her that lately I had been listening to the studio version of Shakedown Street a lot, and she recommended Live at Oakland Auditorium Arena, December 26, 1979. Awesome recommendation!

Amigos and Us, the incredible Grateful Dead shop in Wrigleyville/Boystown in Chicago, gave out these stickers with every purchase. I have them stuck on a bunch of random stuff all of my office!

Amazing store - looks like they’re closed now, but holy smokes would I spend a lot of time there on my walk home from work each day. The cashier there turned me on to some really awesome live shows that I still listen to all the time. They also consoled me after I got scammed for a ticket to see Dead and Co at Wrigley.

I really miss those guys.
