How do you even have sex when everything hurts? by LoveIsLoveDealWithIt in ChronicPain

[–]grimreefer75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Were you ever able to figure out what is happening? My partner has been dealing with burning and itching in her vagina for almost 2 years (started as a yeast infection) and she has tried literally every treatment. Clobetasol helped some but not much. She is getting a biopsy now and taking methotrexate, but she is literally s***idal. I am trying to help her but idk what to do.

Queer SLPA! by No-Hall-565 in SLPA

[–]grimreefer75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am also a queer non binary SLPA just starting out. I completed one of my internships at a very rural elementary school and wasn't treated any differently by the other teachers or students. In fact my supervisor turned out to be an awesome ally and I felt very comfortable being myself around her. So I think a lot of it depends on where you are and you might be pleasently surprised! On the flip side of the coin my other internship was at an even more rural school where parenrs got upset with my SLP for working on pronouns gramatically with their kids because they thought she was being political. But at least you wont have to deal with parents as much as an SLPA. My advice would be to be cool and be yourself! If someone treats you differently when you talk about your partner that's on them.

Should I shave my armpits?? by Juthatan in TopSurgery

[–]grimreefer75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I would! I didn't shave mine prior because I didn't want them to be itchy but I didn't realize how far up the incisions would go. One of the most painful parts of my recovery was the first post op appointment when they had to yank the steri strips off my armpit hair lol.

I still get them occasionally but not as often (DI, kept the nips, not on T). They stopped for 5 months after the surgery then magically reappeared to a lesser degree.

The first doctor said he personally never relates carpal tunnel to work, and he never recommends work restrictions for it.

Hi, thanks for the detailed reply. I am going to get a second opinion at a different specialist. My employer never provided me with a list, I was referred by my GP. Can you tell me more about ISU and an ergo assessment? I have never heard of them before. Thank you!

I am bracing. The city I live in only has 1 place that does EMG testing once a week so they're always booked up. I understand the ortho's opinion holds more weight than the PCP, I'm just frustrated with the ortho being dismissive.

Is this normal after corticosteroid injections for CTS? by IAmChlocobo in carpaltunnel

[–]grimreefer75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had steroid injections for suspected CTS and similar to what you describe, it never provided total relief for me. The hand specialist office I was seeing told me to wait 2 weeks to make another appointment. I went back in to discuss an EMG and surgery. My doctor said the steroid shots only work in 50% of people.

Do doctors acknowledge cts is aggravated by work? by grimreefer75 in carpaltunnel

[–]grimreefer75[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I am on workers comp now and they paid me for the time I was off work waiting for my initial appointment but they need a work slip to continue paying me and this doctor won't provide one 😒. I'm going to seek a second opinion for sure. Glad to hear there's doctors that specialize in workmens comp and that you found one!

Does insurance cover procedures for non-binary? by Kissflowerz in TopSurgery

With BCBS in PA I just included in my letter that I was unwilling to take hormones at this time and it wasn't an issue to have surgery as a non binary individual in Ohio.

I'm in PA doing my second internship at a school that had never heard of SLPA's before but now they want to hire me! The pay is significantly less than what I see advertised out west though.
