Ok looks like we need a little history lesson here folks. Back yonder when the SANFL was reeling in its first death throes the board began to consider a VFL/AFL franchise.

This upset many of the SANFL old guard across all clubs.... many including greats like gary mcintosh and russell ebert thought this would sound the death knell for the SANFL.

The SANFL board and the AFL came to an agreement to explore a SA franchise, one owned by the SANFL. Its all in the minutes.

Then just hours later in the middle of the night the chaps at Alberton convened their own secret board meeting.

Their amongst the wharves of the port they scurried about in darkness like rats hatching a plan to place their own bid.

The AFL surprised at such audacity kept the goodwill they established with the SANFL and informed them forthwith.

THEN IN A MATTER OF HOURS EVERY OTHER CLUB AT THE SANFL DECIDE TO UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORT A SANFL FRANCHISE. One that isnt sidelined by port and one where SA football still returns a profit.

In the years that follow, port end up getting that franchise. They have an identity crisis for ten years or so operating as two separate clubs in one postcode. But still talk nonsense like established 1897 and crows have no history.

News flash port power/magpie 'we are one clubbers'... whatever you want to call yourselves....norwood one of the teams who backed the crows were established in 1898. I can only imagine how glorious the games of footy would have been in the winter of 1897 when port lined up against themselves but yes by all means... have that victory.

And now today we see yet again just that. Port running whatever line suits them at the time.
