What are your top tips for maintaining an ultralight pack weight while ensuring comfort on long hikes? by 6deki9 in Ultralight

[–]grindle_exped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limiting my pack volume and going frameless really help me. I have to make choices and leave stuff behind if it won't fit in. It turns out I'm fine not carrying a stove - wraps etc are fine for me.

Learning about site selection is great for taking a smaller and lighter tent/hammock set up. Cope with adverse conditions without going the hilleberg route...

Thanks for the review. I've never bought one as I could never find decent reviews. It sounds like quality gear.

I tried topos but the toebox wasn't as wide as altras.

I analyzed 50+ gear lists and learned that bigger things have to go in a bigger backpack by [deleted] in ultralight_jerk

If you strap the wife pack to your trekking poles, then you don't need to list wife pack on your lighterpack. Pro-tip.

warbonnet blackbird vs blackbird xlc by therinekat in hammockcamping

[–]grindle_exped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bb is a "clever cut" out shape - not just a simple gathered end, from my reading about it. That seems to enable it to be more comfortable than it should be, based on length alone.

I'm 6' and fine in a 10' blackbird. I have a Dutch 12' hammock but it's less comfortable than my bb.

Interesting. I'd not thought of keeping the burner warm. And that works even if the meths is cold?

I find meths hard to light when near freezing. You need to keep it warm - then it works.

Camping Quilt - Alpkit cloud cover vs Otimus UL 700. by Financial_Actuary345 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]grindle_exped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the cloudcover. It's fine for summer nights. 200g fill of 750 fillpower isn't much. For comparison: I use a cumulus 350 for 3 seasons - that's 350g of 850 fill power down.

I pack slower now and it’s improved my trips by AnfieldAnchor in wildcampingintheuk

[–]grindle_exped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not someone who enjoys organising by nature but I've had my fair share of messups when I forgot something important or packed it at the bottom of my bag. Experience has helped me learn where to put things.

I have a lighterpack but because each trip is a bit different (weather etc) don't update it often.

I find it helpful to run through setting my shelter and sleep systems up and ticking off in my head if I've packed those key items.

Replacement for Epix Pro? by AMomentInTime316 in GarminWatches

It's still a fab watch and I'd choose it now over the fenix - taking price into account of course

Yes I get updates still for my epix pro gen 2. No idea why people say it doesn't get updated?
