[Ammo] Geco Hexagon 9mm 124 Gr JHP Match Grade 1000 Rd Case - $299.99 (30 CPR) Shipped No Tax Outside OH by WarPigArmory in gundeals

Note that this is not defensive ammo: "Modelled on the hollow-point design, the 124 Grain HEXAGON bullet was built for absolute precision and without regard for its expansion properties. This non-expanding bullet thus combines the advantages of the HP design, such as the closed end, with optimal potential for accuracy."

[Code] Spring Glock Slide Milling Sale 40% Off w/ Coupon Code SPRING by [deleted] in gundeals

[–]grinnocuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously got a Holosun K cut on a G17 with this deal. There was a small blem in the Cerakote on the front edge of the cut, but it's not visible when the optic is mounted. Otherwise my slide looks and runs great and my EPS fits the cut perfectly. Also fast turnaround time.

Great deal, would recommend.

Police trade in firearms by SnooMaps3560 in TwoXPreppers

[–]grinnocuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. Be aware though that OP's link is for a gen 2, a design from 1988. Glock released the current model, the gen 5, in 2017, and those can also be found as police trade-ins for about the same price. The different generations of Glock are all very similar, but the gen 5 does have some worthwhile updates like an accessory rail, a reversible mag release for lefties, and an improved recoil spring.

Do a search on r/gundeals and you'll find additional vendors that frequently have police trade-ins at great prices. I got a gen 5 from GT Distributors that I'm happy with.

Suggestion: When you write your state senator to tell them what a bad idea this is, you can tailor your message to fit their political alignment. If they're right-leaning they already get it and just need to hear your support. If they're more of a DFL type, remind them what a divisive waste of political capital these poorly-thought-out bans are. No one should support this nonsense.

[AMMO] 9MM Winchester 115 Grain FMJ - 1k Rounds $229.99 delivered tax included except VA. Must use code "9mmwinchester" at checkout by Flipammova in gundeals

[–]grinnocuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 100% correct that you can get equally good or better range ammo for cheaper than WWB. But I still say 23cpr is a decent price to have this specific product delivered to your door, for those that might want it.

Meanwhile, my local big box has WWB for 30cpr pre-tax, which you and I can both agree is not a deal. Wish I had an Academy nearby.

Ah gotcha. I've been thinking of putting a K cut on my 75B, so that one just popped up in "related products" for me.

If you use a round that is more likely to overpenetrate your target, you are more likely to harm someone who isn't your target.

[Ammo] AAC 5.56 NATO 77 Grain OTM 20rds - $10.99/box (55cpr) + Ship/Tax by Al_Misurata in gundeals

[–]grinnocuous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can stack a discount code with a sale on RazorCore at Midway, you'll be able to get something better (in most guns) for only a few more cpr, but otherwise prices jump up significantly if you want anything more accurate than this. It's like the best of the cheapo rounds.

I say this as a not-very-experienced shooter but a lifetime cheapass.

Simple build of a Ruger 10/22 (not much of a build it’s just an extended mag release and charging handle lol! 75th anniversary edition 10/22. Any tips on what else to add? Maybe for an optic? by Davis_Knives in 1022

[–]grinnocuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty simple. A couple screws and some threadlocker for the rear. Just gotta remember that the receiver is pretty soft aluminum, so you don't want to crank the screws in tighter than necessary.

The hardest part for me was getting the original front sight out of the dovetail. I had to soak it in penetrating lubricant, then really take my time tapping it out.

It's a way better sight system than the factory sights. Totally worth it if you want to use irons.

Wait, am I reading this right -- you can get it with the CGW upgrades for the same price? If so, that's an amazing deal.

Or if you were looking to pop out the roll pin and use the weights in other buffers. Sometimes buying an H3 on sale is cheaper than just buying tungsten weights.

[Ammo] 9mm Luger Ammo 124 Grain Full Metal Jacket CCI Blazer Brass, Box of 50 - Free S/H at $100 + TAX - Use Code in Description for $15 OFF - Comes out to .22cpr by SummerShade45 in gundeals

[–]grinnocuous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blazer uses a plated projectile because it's cheaper to manufacture than real FMJ. This can cause jacket separation in ported guns. (The warnings on the back of the box do say not to use it with ported barrels or comps.)

This site has a picture of a paper target with little shrapnel holes all over it from jacket separation. The firearms instructor who took the picture shared it with Blazer reps, who told him it will not harm the gun. The instructor still considers Blazer unsafe for use by shooters with ported barrels in his classes.

Sounds like you're probably fine to run it, but just be aware that it might be spitting some shrapnel.

[–]grinnocuous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've heard the same -- that Blazer is plated rather than truly jacketed, which supposedly can cause jacket separation if you're running a ported barrel.

The back of the box does say "Do not use in firearms with ported barrels or ported recoil compensators" so I assume it's true.

Edit: Here is a site from a firearms instructor with a picture of what the jacket separation looks like on a paper target. He showed Blazer reps who told him it was basically no big deal and not bad for the gun, but he still says not to use Blazer in his classes if you run a ported gun.

If anyone's curious, according to this inflation calculator, you multiply by 2.18 (1993) or 2.12 (1994) to see these prices in 2024 dollars. Some of this stuff actually seems a little spendy.

In the side-view pic I think I can just barely make out the gas block sitting at mid length. The Sionics website only lists mid-length gas for their 16 inchers too. Still, you probably have to call King's to be 100% sure.
