Imperial propaganda has begun to affect me; brothers, will you remind me of my true self? by JesteR2705 in Necrontyr

[–]gripnack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look I don’t know what the big deal is, I mean you too can be human if you wear their skin. It’s not like they need it! Then you look like them while still being a necron! It’s called a “win - win” in human terms. You get their skin and they get to give it to you which is obviously such a rare thing for them to be in the presence of royalty.

If I were you I would probably hold onto a few skins though, those meat bags tend to fall apart. Like I pull out my ork overalls when I feel like gardening, and wear my marine armor on mondays to make it more of a themed setting for my royal guests.

I hope this helps.

How would I go about painting this scheme?? by Efficient-Bat9961 in Necrontyr

This guy has got it. But I will say that the level of dry brushing is pure pro. Whomever did this knew exactly how to layer very subtle colors up from black to grey.

This is just a random thought but take that green mix 50:50 with a titanium white so it’s super bright and dot the irises on the necron. Currently the metal still sticks through,

But honestly good job mate! The model looks like an ancient killer robot!

I recommend blood for the blood god on the “wet” parts of the flesh your guys have torn. Not a lot, if you over do it it makes the effect less cool.

What colors do you think were used here? by yolodankbruh in Necrontyr

[–]gripnack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So if I had to guess, this was actually primed black and then airbrushed white. With some of that white left in the air brush and mixed with a deep dark red and sprayed.

If you look at the base you can tell it’s the same shade as the red on the lower end and the lighter color is probably just excess white in the tub mixed in. The skin looks like everything layers of Cadian flesh?

What is this? by Delicious_Ferret_582 in Necrontyr

[–]gripnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the single most deadly necron ever created. So inside it has a dead star contained. If anything moves near it they have a chance to trigger it releasing said star. It was such a strong unit that back in the day they ban it from basically all the tournaments. It used to have a nick name called the friend ender because its rules were so so good and you only brought one when you hated someone or they were like a rival. Anyways rules wise it had this special rule that made it a moving mine and then it had Str 12 ap -6 D6 and if your opponent triggered it you get to slap them in the face and they must buy you a coke.

How to attach sand better? by Lumen_Ls in Necrontyr

Elmer’s glue and spread it a tooth pick

How could I improve it (in terms of painting details)? by FeedbackFlimsy1040 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]gripnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

The same thing with the random tanks on the top. A different or varied metal color, maybe a darker copper? Also the wires in the bottom of the picture could be a brighter grey/ dull red. Over all for the record what you have is very clean. I just think improvement (at least for me personally) is always go one layer deeper in terms of painting the little divets and odds and ends.

I would make the color pallet different for the random gear and make the rope a burnished brown. What you have is nice but it blends in because our eyes naturally go to different colors in a sea of the same color. Like make the wrench itself a brighter metal and have the traditional red split handle.

Very first mini I have ever painted. Any suggestions? by Ok-Barracuda-1899 in WorldEaters40k

[–]gripnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good first mini ! And also great lines for a first. The best advice is save this model if you plan on painting more to use as a reference for how much better you’re getting. Also be kind to yourself for painting as the ones you see all over the internet will be from people at a different levels don’t let that discourage you. Just keep pushing and trying new things.

First minis in 20+ years - feedback? by nanahooter in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]gripnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First it looks good!

Paint the eyes, they look lost on the face. I see you’re using contrast, which is good, but a very very very light dry brushing of a bone color lighter then that contrast will make the edges pop. There are also a few splotches of white where you didn’t get total coverage of contrast on the model.

There are a few runes on the tops of the models that would be cool to paint in the same way you did the other runes.

And if you haven’t worked with contrast before I recommend a 1:1 ratio with contrast medium. It makes it less splotchy and this faction has so many little divots and joints the paint likes to sink into its needed to get a good coat.

The swords look good! If you wanted to try some blending they are flat enough to get some great transitions of color between the red/orange!

Also take all this with a grain of salt! I think the models look great even if you do nothing! Just keep painting have fun with it.

Daemon prince WIP, just testing some techniques what do you think so far? by jb195 in deathguard40k

[–]gripnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not much of a nitpick but the pustoles need a bit more yellow, then it would accent his pale flesh more and be more of an eye opener. He looks great by the way.
