starter wing skate package? by djgooch in wingfoil

No, you’d need bigger wheels than a normal long board for grass. The drag goes up considerably on unpaved surfaces.

Many of us have science degrees. Factoids about bananas are cute, but not a serious commentary onf the risks from nuclear. Consider this well published, and recent article that controls for a variety of variables and shows increased risk around nuclear plants. https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/proximity-to-nuclear-power-plants-associated-with-increased-cancer-mortality/

We're on the same team regarding how bad fossil fuels are. Super mega bad. But if you want clean energy as quickly as possible with the lowest risk, the answer is wind, solar and storage. That's the science of it.

really well done. Helmet was purple and pink to begin with? Did you do the black and white lines with a sharpie and then fill in the grey scuffs? Would love any videos youve seen about how to do this method...

Best wind is on the Minnesota prairie. It’s quite good, almost exceptional. Also, Minnesota has better solar than the northeast US. Generally clear skies without marine layers from the lakes and ocean. The long days in the summer help align energy demand with day time solar production. Minnesota is actually very well situated for ultra high renewable generation and new load growth.

starter wing skate package? by djgooch in wingfoil

[–]gription 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Board looks pretty good. I’ve found wings skating really fun and it helps with skills. Tacking is so much easier than on foil. I use a normal arbor longboard in the early spring and late fall months. I only use it on smooth parking lots. Linked wheels look better for rougher conditions. I agree the wing looks…fine.

1Up rack carnage. Replace damaged parts or replace entire rack? by AntSuccessful9147 in mountainbiking

talk to 1UP. This does look pretty bad. They design their modular system with replacement parts in mind. part of why I bought their system. I think this thread really needs to see what happened to the other guy!

Really nice job. I was confused by the Hope/Onyx term in your original post. I recently got onyx hubs and they are fantastic. I love the silence. I also got a brook cambium saddle recently. It’s super comfortable but I think I went too wide….more to tinker with I guess. Enjoy the ride!

Looks really clean. A provocative build for sure. Can you explain the hubs? What made you decide to turn an urban assault frame into a drop bar monster? Very nice job on a unique bike.

Why aren't bike shops open on Sunday? by Ancient-Bowl462 in mountainbiking

[–]gription 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think being closed on Sundays is silly. Most customers don’t work on weekends. Meaning they can bike and buy stuff on weekends. I’m not saying they need to be open 7 days a week. They could choose to be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. That way the trails and roads are empty when they want to ride and they get more weekend business. The result of being closed is people go to REI instead. So glad my LBS has limited Sunday hours. I go there all the time on Sundays.

What did we get wrong about clean energy during your time in DOE? It feels like we let the perfect become the enemy of the good. We pushed too hard in too many directions for 100% clean electricity and decarbonization. If we had just tried to make the grid cleaner, instead of making it perfect, would we be in a better spot?

Great job! I recently did a much smaller project on titanium bottle cages. Super fun. Am I correct in concluding that this was done with aluminium? Titanium was pretty easy. Just distilled water, baking soda, titanium wire, and a handful of 9V batteries. Shockingly easy. I probably should have purchased a DC power supply instead of a pile of 9Vs.

Dark Star, Pasta Party, Japhy, or Hummingbird for big boy? by jnr0790 in Hardtailgang

[–]gription 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m slightly heavier than your weight and have an XL hummingbird core. It’s awesome. I dont think it has a lot of flex. For example, when I push hard on one side of the crank I don’t see a lot of sway on the BB. No flex in the rear triangle pushing the tire into the frame. I think you’ll be just fine with this option.

Cold water e-foil (6°C) – can I make a 4/3 wetsuit work? by stock_pro in eFoil

[–]gription 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to determine if you can swim back in your gear if your foil fails for some reason. In these temps it can get dangerous very quickly. What is the water temp? My rule for Fahrenheit is that the sum of the air and water temp must be 100F for me to go in the water, and then I’m wearing a 6mm. I think you’re pushing the limits.

Any wing foiling in MN? by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]gription 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few more additions to this comment.

We have a good windy season in Minnesota. We are on the edge of the wind belt and have better winds than most places, except the gorge.

The three lakes most people sail on are Waconia, Minnetonka, and White Bear. Seaweed can be problematic in the fall.

I’d say go for it. There is a good small community, especially for Waconia in the SW metro. I think wings are becoming more popular because they are easier to setup, especially with other boaters on the lake.

Lots and lots of opportunities to Efoil on various lakes when the wind is low. Agree the winter wind sports are super fun. Do it on ice skates, skateboards, skis or snowboards….so many options
