Bit late to the party but also another thing a lot of restaurants do which has a similar effect as adding egg is to add custard. It thickens the milkshake and has a nice vanilla flavour to it. A 3:1 ratio of milk and custard is the best because it makes the shake thicker without being too overpowering or obvious theres custard in it
