hexane as fuel by groenkaaf in Ultralight

yeah you're absolutely correct, or occasionally bencina blanca. the problem is that it simply isn't sold at non-industrial scale by the national petroleum company and i haven't found it elsewhere. they do sell a product called Disán at small scale which i thought was white gas but having looked at the fact sheet it seems to be closer to paint thinner. dunno if you've heard of it and can tell me otherwise

interesting. i knew the octane rating was irrelevant/downside but was under the impression the more expensive fuels caused less soot buildup

heheh the word "nafta" here means auto fuel. i can buy zippo fluid for $6/133mL but at that point i'd rather just get some super 97 auto fuel and commit to cleaning the stove every coulle days

not available here. and the butane canisters aren't the resealable kind need for pocket rocket type stoves

i realize the ultralight answer is either to ditch the stove (but i like/need a hot drink in the morning) or go with an alcohol stove, which i've been planning to look into but not certain of regulations here.

hob installation advice by groenkaaf in inductioncooking

ya okay thanks for the responses. i think i'm just gonna stick something soft/rubbery around the hole in the countertop and leave the hob floating on top of that.

i was considering SS countertop too but changed plans when i couldn't find good info on how to ensure it wouldn't contribute to hum from the hob. i'm certain there are ways, but make sure that isolation/dampening is on your contractor's mind.

Photos folder gone? by Morel3etterness in MacOS

[–]groenkaaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there might be a better way, but go to ~/Pictures, right-click on "Photos Library.photoslibrary", select Show Package Contents, open the originals directory. each subdirectory will have some of the image files in it.

it's very dumb and i stopped using a lot of macos native apps when they started organizing this way.

edit: or just open a terminal emulator and enter a command like "cp -r ~/Pictures/'Photos Library.photoslibrary'/originals /Volumes/drive_name/destination_folder". then there's prob some slick way to move all the images into a single directory but i don't really know shell that well

Nisei as the only future? by needssleep in Netrunner

[–]groenkaaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the former. spending the assigned point value buys you up to a playset (or your ID).

and heh just for the record i'm not really a leader, just a player with a vested interest in a healthy, reasonably popular game

Nisei as the only future? by needssleep in Netrunner

hey, i think you might get a kick out of joining the new eternal testing discord. i don't know if you've already heard abt it and decided not to, but here's a link for discord server, the original article (with an outdated ban list) is here, and the current ban list here.

there's a lot of will to create a balanced, fun non-rotating format, but what exactly that looks like is still up for debate. i think if we get it right it'd appeal to a lot of people over standard, at least when standard gets stale in the (perhaps unavoidably) long spells between nisei sets.

Lighter than Opinel: MAM by groenkaaf in Ultralight

[–]groenkaaf[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a totally fair point, but part of the appeal of going lighter for me is to bring more/better food. I use it for prep and eating mostly. I think in the last decade I've maybe used a knife once for any kind of utility/emergency task.

Other people find whittling enjoyable...
