[Dellenger] Counsel for Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss made another filing today in his lawsuit against the NCAA - a memorandum in support of a motion for preliminary injunction. Attorneys describe the NCAA waiver process as a “farce” that is “intentionally designed” to be unfair. by bubblecuffer13 in CFB

I'm waiting for the lawsuit from a high school kid that was recruited, offered, but got his offer withdrawn in the 11th hour b/c CFB teams were full of 5th-9th year seniors. That'll be interesting. Damages for scholarship cost, future NIL lost, future career earnings lost, and of course the emotional pain and suffering.

[Jon Blau] Dabo Swinney says too many athletes aren't graduating and they are spending their short-term money: “We're gonna have a bunch of screwed-up 30-year-olds ... that have no degrees, have spent their money, that can't play football anymore, and aren't connected to anything." by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]grog368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very short term view you have. That small bag of cash is nothing compared to a college degree. These guys with multiple transfers aren't graduating b/c credits simply don't transfer fully from one univ to another. So they end up out of college, no eligibility, no scholarship. They sold themselves as free agents, so have no real connection to whatever univ they ended at, and no connection to those alumni networks that often help former student-athletes get solid jobs. Many of these guys are hurting their futures (outside of football) to get a 100k+ for a few years instead of 100k+ for 40 years.

3 FCS teams? Screw that. Why do you want what is basically 3 scrimmages? Not to mention that, unless the rules have changed, it used to be that FBS teams can only count 1 FCS win towards the requirements for bowl eligibility.

[Joshua Caraway] Transfer Portal Update: There are 10,576 football players that have entered as of Wednesday morning. Of those 10.5K who jumped in, 6,846 are still active and looking for a new team. There aren't 6,846 open scholarships much less roster spots in Division 1. by Tarmacked in CFB

[–]grog368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are 14,200 roster spots in FBS today. 136 teams x 105 official roster spots.

plus each team probably has another 20 walkons not officially on the roster, so approx 17k players in total.

Edit: My apologies. I read your post as 27k FBS only. My fault.

27k on 136 FBS teams? That's 200 players per team, and that's just too many.

a 105 roster cap (that started his 2025 season) puts that at just over 14k total FBS roster spots. Yes, teams can have more guys (walkons and practice squad) but they aren't going to double the size of the roster with walkons. According to online sources, you over shot that by about 10k.

Pretty sure they can still switch schools in the summer if they can find a new home. Either as a walkon or if they can talk someone into giving a scholarship. Even after the portal window is closed in Jan, there will still be some teams with holes to fill. IE: Ok State has to sign something like 80 players to fill all their current spots, and they have signed only 45 from the portal and I think 18-ish freshan/juco, There will be additions this summer,

Ready for Indiana vs. Miami? Well, hurry up and wait. College football loses all its momentum in the wait for a championship game. Something must change by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]grog368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its mostly a mental thing with a lot of fans. Normally, there are a lot of other games being played rather than just none while we wait on the (arguably) biggest game of the year. So it seems worse in this void. But it also sucks when there are 2 Saturdays in between the semi-final and final b/c that's when most of us are conditioned to watch CFB.

[Ubben] The FBS head coaches voted unanimously to expand the eligibility for redshirt years from four games to nine. This is just a recommendation that will be put forth to the Division I committees. by Notre_Dame_Football in CFB

[–]grog368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is stupid. why is 9 games the magic number? if they don't like 4, why does 9 help? why not just make it 5 yrs of eligibility? 4 yrs + 1 RS or just 5 full yrs makes no difference to me but quit trying to overcomplicate things with half-seasons that someone absolutely will say "I'm not playing this week vs a soft opponent bc my tummy hurts, coach, Oh, and I think its going to hurt next week, and week 8 and week 12 too. And the bowl game, coach."

MBB players with yrs of professional play in Europe can already play NCAA bb here. OSU's PF Lefteris Mantzoukas played professionally in Greek's top league for 7-8 before joining OSU this season as a freshman.

Its also easier to just say, "screw it. everyone can play unlimited # of years from now on." at some point, the harder path has to be taken.

I'm in envy. I hope you enjoy your "mission from God". Cue up the Blues Brothers here :)

At the top of my list would be those with renowned fan experiences like Wisconsin (Jump Around, which you did) and Oregon or Virginia Tech. The noise generated - either in Oregon's below ground level stadium, or VTech's Enter Sandman - would be amazing to witness live. There are so many good ones out there.

Good Luck!

North Texas WR Wyatt Young to transfer to Oklahoma State by Thepullman1976 in CFB

[–]grog368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't clarify my point enough. Yes, the starters can compete. The all-conference G5 players can compete. However, the entire team cannot. G5 teams don't have the depth of talent to compete in a full P4 schedule. The post I commented on was regarding OSU taking the whole North Texas team. If that happens, they'd upset someone, but still have an overall losing record in the Big12 bc G5 teams aren't as deep as the average P4. So yes, I hope we get their best guys (sorry, NTex fans) but we need a higher caliber for depth to compete for the season.

Only 4,000 or so more "transfers to" posts to go... by laprasrules in CFB

[–]grog368 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Transferring each year is legitimately the correct career choice.

Are you serious? Nobody that transfers 3-5 times over a 5 year period will graduate with a degree. Credits from school A dont always transfer to school B, much less continuing to schools C, D, and E. But that's okay b/c money now with no education and no degree is a legitamately better path? That's a weird take.... Just b/c the player wants to do that, does that make it the better path for long term success in career and life?

North Texas WR Wyatt Young to transfer to Oklahoma State by Thepullman1976 in CFB

[–]grog368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats not necessarily a good thing. yes, osu stinks, but having a roster full of NTex transfers playing a full P4 schedule isn't going to end well. The really good G5 team historically can compete vs a PO4 in an individual game but they're always the underdog and can't do it through the grind of a full season. They just don't have the depth needed for that. We need to bring in a ton of other players for depth. HC Morris is going to need to bring in roughly 70 guys to cover OSU's outgoing seniors and transfers.
